SAM

I knocked on the door to Elena's house and waited patiently outside. Part of me was extremely nervous, the other part was terrified. I had to talk to Elena's parents, and I had to talk to them soon. These past couple months, we have grown very close. At first, it took Grayson awhile to grow accepting to our relationship. Now, he treats me like I'm part of the family.

Grayson opened the door with a smile on his face.

"Sam! Please, come in!" He opened the door and let me in. I shook his hand and continued towards the kitchen to find Miranda cooking.

"Mrs. Gilbert," I said handing her a bottle of wine.

"Sam, what did I say about formalities? Come on, we work together!" She said.

"Sorry Miranda," I smiled at her. "Where's Elena?"

"She went to the store to grab something for me. She said she texted you," she told me. I pulled out my phone and saw that I had a text.

"I guess I should keep my sound on then," I laughed softly. "That's actually perfect because I've been meaning to talk to you guys."

"What about?" Grayson asked me.

"Elena actually," I said nervously. They looked at me confused. "Don't worry! It's nothing bad!" They breathed a sigh of relief.

"Well then what is it sweetie?" Miranda asked me. I cleared my throat and wiped my sweaty palms on my pants.

"Uhmm I was..." I started before the front door opened.

"I'm home!" Elena yelled walking through the front doors. I sighed and waited for her to come in.

"Hi mom, hi dad, hi Sam," she smiled at me. She walked over and hugged me around my waist. I kissed her cheek.

"Hi Elena."

"Sorry, I had to get my mom some things she forgot at the store," she explained.

"No worries. I was just talking to your parents."

"Oh yes, Sam what was it that you wanted to talk about?" Miranda asked.

"Oh nothing! We can discuss it later," I sighed. She nodded and got back to cooking.

ELENA

I could see Sam acting weird all through dinner. He was nervous for some reason I couldn't understand. He knows my parents. He knows my parents love him too. I don't know why he would be nervous.

We sat down at the dinner table. I helped set everything up while Sam and my father talked to each other. They were speaking low enough so I couldn't hear. I grabbed a seat next to Sam and started grabbing some food.

"So Elena, you're graduating next month," my father stated.

"I am," I smiled at him. "Valedictorian actually."

"You got it? Elena that's amazing!" Sam yelled.

"I just found out today," I smiled at them. Sam hugged me and kissed my cheek.

"Sweetie I'm so proud of you," my mother told me.

"Me too Elena. That's amazing," my father added.

"Thanks guys." I couldn't control my smile. It was all over the place. I felt like everything was in place.

"What do you plan on doing after high school?" My father asked me. Sam and I looked at each other and smiled.

"Actually, I got accepted into Stanford," I told them. Their eyes almost bulged out of their heads.

"You what?" They both yelled at the same time. They kept smiling and cheering before they realized the real issue.
