20 years since the day, most of humanity was utterly annihilated by the horde, leaving the remaining humans sheltering in isolated guarded cities around the world.
Whilst inside the barracks, Shiki looked over his bandaged left arm quietly as the other soldiers prep themselves.
He dressed in his black coat and strapped his gun and katana on his waist. Then he walked outside to the courtyard, heard the soldiers chattering in groups, smelled the smoke stanking from the city factory and the hot wind blowing against his skin.
The high commander Hanzo walked around the courtyard observing the soldiers chattering with each other. Though each man he passed trembled at his presence as he was known to be ruthless and strict.
Shiki headed towards the city with his hands inside his hands inside his pocket and his eyes observed the workers around the city and the children playing in the streets. I only hope this peace last long. He stared the massive concrete gates which was holding back the horde with its electrical walls. I don't know how long the city can hold those things back without even fighting back.
Three soldiers scurried towards him and saluted him "Shiki, we heard that the creatures are outside the gates!"
"Calm down, I am sure those things won't break through," Shiki said "Andrew is there so he'll make sure nothing goes wrong."
"Yeah, I am sorry but we're just worried that we'd face the horde," the soldier trembled under his skin
Shiki glance towards the gate "I'll head over there and make sure nothing goes wrong as well if it makes you feel better."
"Thanks!" They bowed and walked away looking relieved.
The news clouded Shiki's mind as he headed towards the gate. I only hope what I said is actually true. When he arrived near the gate, headed upstairs towards the top where Andrew was.
"Hey, you made it," Andrew drank water as he eyed the creatures lurking outside "Take a look at these things."
Shiki walked over next to him and his eyes widened. The horde zombies trying to enter through the gates but were electrocuted when they touched. He never imagined that they come so soon.
"You'd think that 20 years they'd arrive here sooner but only yesterday they did," Andrew chuckled "They're one disgusting freaks that's for sure."
Then Shiki's bandaged left hand started to throbbed hard. He dropped to one knee and gritted his teeth in pain.
"You alright?" Andrew said "You're scaring me right now," he stared at him
"Don't worry about it," Shiki rose up and shook his head "I am alright, this happens alot lately."
Then a loud roar reverberated across the walls as a horde giant stomped its way towards the gate. Andrew stared in awe "That's a giant huh?" His hands shook "Okay, that's scary to think we'll actually fight those things but its fine, we're being protected by the gates even a giant can't touch an electrical gate."
Shiki remained quiet as he watched the gigantic creature come closer and closer towards the city. I sure hope you're right about that.
"Commander, we have a situation," a soldier rushed towards Andrew "We lost contact with the engineer team!"
"What are you talking about!" Andrew called them on his cellphone but no response "How is this possible?"
The two exchanged words but Shiki stood wide eyed as more creatures assembled outside the city. Ten horde necromancers appeared with what appeared to be a corrupted deity.
A pain shot through his bandaged arm. Shiki groaned and dropped to one knee again whilst holding his arm. This pain was much worse. Why is my arm hurting this much?!
Then the electricity generator exploded in the distance. Andrew stared in terror. Shiki speechless. The people in the city panicked and many screamed.
"What the hell?!" Andrew eyes gaped "We need to prepare the troops to launch a counter attack!"
"Andrew wait," Shiki stood up and glanced towards the oncoming horde creatures tearing the gates down "We need to help the civilians before we do that."
"That's impossible, we can't spare that much time or else we'll be overrun without even a chance to fight back."
"Leave that to me," Shiki said "I'll buy you enough time to get the civilians into the deeper city," he clenched his bandaged hand "I have this, and I can protect them with this, its my responsibility."
"We don't even know whether you can use that or whether the higher ups are going to allow that!"
"I don't care what they allow me so trust me, I can do this," Shiki said in a determinded voice
Andrew pursued his lips and turned towards the soldier "Alright, you heard him, we'll get the people out so escort everyone now."
The soldier reluctantly followed the order and headed back into the base. Andrew gasped "You're nuts, you actually think you can pull this?"
"I have to try," Shiki walked downstairs with his hand gripping his katana and his mind ready.
"Hold on," Andrew unholstered his machine gun from his back and stood walked next to him "I am going too."
"You sure?"
"I have a family in the deeper city you know," Andrew said "I have to protect them from those things."
Shiki smiled and continued walking downstairs and Andrew followed him as they headed towards the city streets to prepare the incoming horde.
As the blue skinned zombies clawed the gates, tearing it up bit by bit. The horde giants clammed their hands together and hammered the gates into pieces. The destruction blarred throughout the city.
Whilst preparing in the city streets, Andrew and Shiki felt earth shook as the gate smashed in.
"That's one hulking monster we're going to deal with," Andrew positioned machine guns in the houses and in the streets.
Shiki clenched his sword as the creatures swarmed into the city and the giants stomping inside.
"Commander Andrew, we're here to help!" A legion of soldiers arrived with guns and arnaments ready
"Why did you came here?!" Andrew said "I thought I told you to get the civilians to the deeper city."
"We'll leave that to the others." They positioned themselves around the perimeter with their guns loaded "We'll help you hold them back."
Andrew sighed and smirked "You're quite the bold squad aren't you?" He loaded his machine gun with bullets
"We're soldiers, this is what we were trained to do."
Then another man showed up with explosives slugged on his back and he wore brown clothing "I am guessing you're here to hold them back right?"
"Who are you?" Andrew asked
"I am just a rookie, name's Amashuta," He scanned the area "I'll help you hold these creatures back."
"Well I don't know why you're all the way here but right now I can't turn down any help, just don't be reckless kid."
The wind blew on Shiki's black coat and his black hair as he braced himself for the oncoming horde, his pale skin glinted, his eyes shadowed the distance and his resolve hardened. He sighted droves of the horde's zombies in the distance. Here they come.
