"And I hate to love you"

Percy's P.O.V

At the beginning, I found it hard to be around her. She was always so insistent on being right, that she rarely have thought to other's opinions. Conversations turned into arguments. Arguments turned into fights. But somewhere along the line, fights turned into love.

"You think Apollo could actually beat Artemis? Maybe your brain's waterlogged or something!"

I felt a slice of amusement run through me at her comment. "Waterlogged? That's the best you've got?"

A slight blush rose to her cheeks. "So what, is not like you've got any better insults!"

"Oh really? I personally would have gone for something along the lines of "deformed nut", but it appears you were too slow to think of it." I liked the poke fun at her speed ever since I beat her in a race a week ago in front of the majority of the camp.

"Slow? You know what? I still think you cheated somehow! I'm still waiting for you to get over yourself and rematch me." Her gaze lingered on my lips for a second too long before coming back up to meet my eyes.

"I'll take you on again, just name the time and place." I replied smugly, just waiting for her temper to explode as per usual.

"You are so cocky for a cheater! That's it!" Her anger shone through making her blush even more pronounced. "Five minutes, by the big house. Be ready to lose like you deserve."

I found myself stumbling for a response as she flicked her hair off her shoulder before turning to storm away. "As if!"

Her slight chuckle was barely loud enough for me to hear, but I did, and it made something inside of me burn with happiness. That happiness stayed with me the whole walk to the big house, causing a small smile to light up my face.

As a demigod, you learned very quickly to wear clothes that allowed you to always be ready for a fight, and that included shoes. The Aphrodite kids had instilled in us the importance of practicality versus style. As they said, both were important, but finding the perfect balance was worth it. They gave us each our own pair of shoes they deigned perfect for us, so I didn't complain, I mean, free shoes are free shoes after all.

There was a fairly large crowd already there by the time I got there, but my focus was immediately drawn to Zoe who had tied her hair back in a high ponytail in anticipation for our race. Unlike us, she wore very plain shoes that didn't look very comfortable to run in, but I knew from experience that looks could be deceiving.

"You wanna start, or are you going to keep staring at me all day?" She growled at me, but a look of pride passed over her. She knew how I felt about her, and she returned the feelings.

"How would you know I was staring if you weren't staring right back?" I challenged her, moving to stand next to her.

Will Solace had taken in upon himself to be the judge, and in the spirit of one who had work to get back to, he instructed us to get ready. "On my whistle you will start. You have to run all the way to the lake, touch it with your hand, and then run back here. First one back will be declared the winner. Any questions?"

We both shook our head. "Nope."

"Good." Will said before checking his watch. "On your mark, get set..." His piercing whistle signified the beginning of the race, and we took off like bullets from a gun.

I started out in the lead, but Zoe quickly overtook me. Her strides were long and confident, not all too different from my own.

Twenty seconds later, I overtook her, letting the smirk on my face do all the talking.

As we raced towards the lake, we fought for the lead, often calling out taunts as we passed each other.

"Slowpoke!"

"Eat my dust!"

"You getting tired yet?"

By the time we reached the lake, Zoe had gotten a few steps on me. Grinning, I felt the tug in my gut as I made the water come to me instead of going to it like Zoe had to. It's cool water rejuvenated me, making me feel more energized than when I started the race. Not that I was going to let Zoe know that.

Sadly, I hadn't needed to tell her, she figured it out on her own. "Hey!" She stopped running and put her hands on her hips. "That's cheating! I knew you couldn't beat me without using your powers!"

"How is using the super speed that Artemis gifted you any better?" I raised my eyebrow as I took a step closer.

"That's different.... That's..." She would have continued if I hadn't silenced her with my lips. The kiss felt dangerous, like stealing a cookie from the cookie jar before dinner and knowing how your mom would freak out if she knew. But at the same time, how could anyone ever know? We were alone by the lake, where no camper's could see and report to Artemis. It was only after that thought that I lost myself in the kiss, and by the time I could think clearly, the kiss was over.

"Wow."

She smiled, clearly feeling the same way. "Yeah, it was great, but no one can ever know, got it?"

"I won't tell if you don't." I smirked, feeling rebellious.

She raised her eyebrow. "Don't you mean, you won't tell if you want more of where that came from?" A teasing smile found its way to her lips.

"As long as we can do that again, I'll swear to secrecy."

"Good, now we better finish this race soon or people are going to get suspicious. Find me after dinner." As the last word left her lips, she turned as took off towards the big house, with a speed that I wasn't expecting.

Fine, if she wanted to play that way... I took off after her, using the butterflies that lingered in my stomach from the kiss as fuel. I tore after her, managing to get there merely seconds after her.

While everyone else was busy collecting winnings from their bets, Zoe walked over to me and whispered in my ear. "Guess you couldn't beat me even when you were cheating." Then she walked away, leaving me in hungry anticipation for what lie after dinner.

Sometimes, you find love, and other times, love finds you.

Hopefully this time love could keep its mouth shut.
