"Yes...uh....mm", I mumble as I talk with Ryan, my HR manager over the phone. I half tuned out as he went over our monthly review. I hadn't been able to listen to too much lately. It was all seeming trivial compared to my little angel. She needed someone to hold her and cuddle her and love her and not want to just go rip off the heads of any males that looked at her. I had almost got a female driver for her because of this possessiveness taking over that I couldn't control. But, I trust Smith with my life, which is hard to say for many people around me.

Ever since she told me about how she and been... been violated I hadn't been able to function properly. I wanted to talk with her about normal things and just have everything go the way it was, but I couldn't help but see the broken look in her eyes and the fear and trepidation she walked with every time we came in contact. So I couldn't help but put up my defense mechanism and make those moments scarce. I was a coward.

Protecting my own heart from the raw pain it felt as I saw how affected she was by everything that had happened. I wanted to help her feel better with everything in me. Sometimes it was good; in moments were she got so lost in a situation she could go full on World War III with me yelling her opinionated, intelligent mind but any other time she just crawled into her shell, blaming herself and ridiculing the way she was to no end.

She told me the full story, last week, and in that unleashed moment of pure brokenness as her scent enclosed me like a warm blanket, her skin like sparkly fireworks as she lay her head in my neck and cried, I couldn't help but let my own tears flow for the way she had been treated. Fück, I wanted to just hold her for forever and never let her go so if it would fix her. But couldn't and it made me feel so powerless. All I could think about was her small six-year-old body lying on a cold bathroom floor and... and then storming in and ripping his fücking head off. Piece by tiny pi-

"Sir? Mr. Montero?" Ryan practically shouted. I growled at the yelling, he had just shown a sign of disrespect until I realized he was trying to gain my attention. I cleared my throat and sat straighter in my desk, refocusing my attention.

"Can you please repeat that Ryan?"

"Well, as you know, Addy has filled her two-month notice, and so we were thinking of setting up interview for her to start training someone. Do you have anyone in mind?" Ryan repeated. I had already known this, of course because she told me about her pregnancy a few weeks ago. She didn't really need this job for financial purpose, because her husband/mate was a high-ranking sentry for a nearby pack, but she was great at her job. It would definitely be a big loss to see her go. I couldn't think of anyone at the moment until the best idea since lingerie popped into my head.

"I do, actually. She's just moved here and looking for a job in the city", I said. Ryan paused for a moment as I heard the shoveling of papers form his end of the line.

"Do you know her credentials?" Ryan asks as I heard him typing something on the computer.

"She's actually just finishing up highschool at Everest, but I can vouch for her proficiency as my secretary", I say, an idea formulating in my head as we speak. How do I tell Maeve about this job? If I just confront her straight on, she'll flip, thinking I'm just doing it out of pity- which I'm not. Although spending lots of time with her will be a motivator, I have not doubt in her ability. I've seen her report card and she's definitely a hard-working student, not to mention that I know I can trust her, without worrying of her being a spy from another competitor.
