Chapter Thirty Nine-

I settled down at my usual table, carrying a plate of carrots and lettuce; I’m really starting to get tired of being a vegetarian. I huffed at my plate and then began to shove carrots down my throat.

“Oh now that’s attractive.” Damon remarked, holding his tray and having a hand in his pocket.

Oh. My. Gosh.

 He. Is. So.  Irresistible. Himself!

It was obvious he was trying to keep his bad boy look up to date, wearing a red and black flannel shirt, with a black undershirt to match and then a pair of blue jeans.

“Hum. Do you always keep your hands in your pockets?” I asked him, glaring up from my water.

He smirked down at me, taking his hand out of his pocket, taking a seat and grabbing my hand in his.

“Now, that depends where you keep yours at.”

Ivy busted out in laughter, Katy glared at me, Liam went back to eating, I blushed and Davey took a sip of her coke.

Aren’t we just amazing!

I untangled my hand from his, wiping it on my jeans and then went back at picking through my salad.

Was I the only one who noticed that he put his arm around Katy as he sat down?

“So I was thinking, my parents have booked a ski resort for the weekend. Do y’all want to come?” Ivy asked, slurping up her milk; very grossly I might add.

Oh goodness, ice.

Damon started laughing, pointing at me and then laughing even more.

“You expect Charlotte to actually ski without falling?” He said, bringing back memories…very bad ones.

“Our parents when we were younger would take us to ski around the holidays. We’d book a cabin and then hit the slopes. You have no idea how many times she has fallen on the BEGGINNERS Mountain.” He exclaimed, staring right at me.

I rolled my eyes at him, looking away and catching glances from nearby viewers of yesterday event.

“Oh and then there was this time with a pond!” He started, but I was quick to throw a carrot at him.

“Maybe she saw it, maybe she didn’t. But all I know is that she ended up in it!”

That awkwardly rhymed.

I got up from my seat, and begun to step towards him but he mimicked my movements as I chased him around the table.

“Why don’t you tell them Charlotte?” He says, pure amusement filling his tone.

Oh he is in for it.

I finally came around the table, tackling my opponent to the ground; I couldn’t help but to laugh at his shocked face.

“What about the time you thought you saw a bear when we were skiing?” He asked, still going on after all of this.

You’d be surprised how unlucky I get when I’m at the ski resort.

“Oh come on! I was like three!” I said, pinning his down with my palms.

“More like around the age of eleven.”

“I’ll still stand to this day and admit that I’m afraid of bears. But the question is can you admit that you’ve been afraid of snakes since one slithered by you on your first day of second grade?” I said, laughing as I go on.

“Oh now you’re in trouble!” He said to rather himself.

“Remember that time that you got stuck in that tree in your back yard? Who had to help you down from it?” he asked, referring to the time when I was like six.

“Hey, what about the time that you got stuck in a basketball hoop? Guess who wasn’t there to help you?”

“You don’t deserve to live.” He said to me, smile on his face, joking.

“Why don’t you go tell your father that?” I said to him, watching as the amusement faded from his face.

He shook his head, flipped me off of him and let me roll onto the scummy flooring. And with that he left that cafeteria and left me feeling absolutely terrible.

I dusted off my jeans, said a quick “be right back” to everyone and then ran after him.

He was already further down the hallway, turning out of a door and into the parking lot; I hurried myself a bit faster.

“Damon!” I shouted after him, watching from afar as he jabbed the key into the door.

“Um, the key doesn’t go in that way.” I said, taking them from him and putting it in the slot correctly.

“I went too far.” I noted, looking down to the ground before I allowed myself to look up to him.

He solemnly nodded his head, not even taking the chance to push the hair out of his eyes.

“You see, when you were still around I told myself never to talk about that, not to bring it up. And for awhile I was awesome at it, I never breathed a word of your dad. But I think that since you been gone for so long, I kind of forgot to hold myself back.” I said to him, leaning my back against his car door and staring up at him.

He had his hands in his pockets, eyes staring down, hair covering his eyes and his spine was as straight as I think any boy would ever allow. Or at least this boy will ever allow.

“I didn’t mean it.” I whispered to him, “At all. It was stupid beyond beliefs.”

He just nodded, flicking his hair out of his face and then staring at me.

“Do you want to get out of here?” He whispered to me, slight smile forming back on his face.

I nodded without hesitation, bringing my arms around him even though he didn’t throw his around me.

“Get in, Devil.” He said, smile on his own face.

“Oh is that my new nickname?” I asked, running over to the passenger side door.

“Only when you’re bad.”

I couldn’t help but laugh. He pulled out of the parking lot, about to make a left turn, when I looked back at the columns outside.

There stood a thin, blond haired girl, with her arms crossed and a scowl on her face.

Here comes more drama. My mind told me and sadly I had to agree.
