Just a Dream

Slipping into sleep. Cameron wished things were easier when it came to dreams. He had nightmares pretty frequently and he leaned how to fight his demons. But his was different. Dreams were different. They are fantasy. They are places you run away to when you have no other choice. They are everything you want the world to be. Except for one dream. Cameron had this one dream in particular that he knew wouldn't come true. He prayed that one day it would. Because that one dream was his fantasy land, his paradise. But the person he shared his dream kingdom with, his partner in crime, he knew she would never be able to feel those same emotions for him.

This dream only came up once in a blue moon. I mean Cameron did dream about Kirsten frequently when he wasn't having nightmares or reliving his present demons. But nevertheless he was madly in love. Madly in love with the emotional void blonde that he called "Stretch" and other terms of endearment on a day-to-day basis. His partner in crime. Why was this dream so hard to fight through?

"Come and find me, Cameron!" Kirsten yelled playfully as she ran through the woods looking back every few seconds for Cameron. Cameron chased after her but she was quick and she knew exactly where to hide. So he let her go. Because this dream always began in 3rd person, as Cameron watch himself and Kirsten as a happily in love couple. Then the dream ended up in 1st person, and him regretting every time staying in the dream for as long as he did.

The neuroscientist was nowhere to be found so she slid behind a tree. Giggles erupted from her body and she couldn't contain her enthusiasm. She loves him so much.

"I wonder where my Cupcake is at?" He wondered as he looked behind every tree trunk. Giggles escaped her lips and she knew it. She was caught red-handed. He turned around and saw her doing her best at hiding from him with an innocent smile. Once he beheld this beautiful sight, he ran to her and wrapped his arms around her.

"You're not getting away that easy, Stretch!" He let her know as he left a trail of kisses on her neck and shoulders. Cameron continued to watch in 3rd person. As he approach dream Cameron, knifes went through his heart.

"You don't even know." He whispered. "How much this is going to hurt in the morning. How much she's going to hurt you. That she can never love you." Tears streamed his eyes. People said dreams had meanings behind them. Was the meaning so obvious? Was Cameron and Kirsten never meant to be?

"And that you don't have a choice but to go through the pain anyway." Cameron always tried to find a way to get out. Not to go through all the pain and aftershock of his nightmares. But it was no use. This dream always came back to teach a lesson, to show him something. It's not meant to be.

"Kirsten, you're lucky. You don't have to feel what I have to feel. Me and my sensitive heart, I know. I wish I could be more like you, because then, I wouldn't seem like the weakest link. Then I could finally protect you" He confessed as tears filled his eyes. He was just preaching to the choir. Watching a world he so long for pass by within an instant. He just wished she could hear him.

In a moment's notice, he was warped. He began to blink a couple of times but once his vision clarified, Kirsten was staring back him. He didn't know if was the dream or his own feelings, but the energy it created was highly intoxicating.

"Cam are you okay?" She asked as she ran her fingers through his chocolate curls.

"Yeah Princess I'm fine." He told her with a gentle smile. He gazed into her beautiful brown eyes and felt sparks fly. He knew when he walk into this parallel universe, this was going to scar him. But when he saw this world in a new set of eyes, it changed him. It's like for that little while he wanted to enjoy the time he had with this new Kirsten even if it was pretend.
