Chapter 2

As I sit in the dusty, old shrine I wonder... How did I get dragged in here?
---FlashBack---
So after the mysterious lady disappeared into the street, I stood there dumbfounded. I am the new Land God? I hear light footsteps coming behind me. I whip my head around to face the new comer. The figure making its way towards me was wearing a plain kimono. His hair was a sliver, almost white colour, and it was short and shiny. Amongst his hair were a pair of white, fox-like ears, that's quite unusual. He also had a fox tail swishing side to side. His skin was very pale. His eyes were hidden beneath his sliver locks. The slender man was mere inches away from me. The cherry blossoms were falling around him, making him seem to walk with grace and elegance.

"Well well. My lady Nanami has finally returned to her beloved Sh-" He stops in mid sentence, raising his head slightly. "Oh, you don't seem to be lady Nanami. But you do certainly have the Land God mark on your forehead, why is that?" He approaches me, lifting my chin up to his face. I could finally see his eyes, they were a elegant shade of violet, they are just like fox eyes. His face is quite alluring, his defined facial features compliment his Ivory skin. I just couldn't stop staring at him."Well? Answer me human. Why do you posses the Land God mark?" I didn't know why, neither did I know what the purpose was? "I don't know. This girl just kissed my forehead, told me to take care of the shrine and disappeared." He let go of my chin. "Hm, is that so?..." He mutters to himself. He grabs my arm and drags me towards the shrine. "H-hey! Where are we going?" I ask as he pulls on my arm harder. "Since you are the new Land God, you must perform your duties as a Land God." I nod, just before we enter the shrine I stop. "Well since I'm the Land God, you should know my name. It's (Y/n). I would love to know your name." He sighs and glances at me. "Tomoe. Now let's get a move on!" He pushes me through the door.

Oh yeah that's right, I'm a god now. I shuffle uncomfortable on the hard floor. Where is Tomoe? He just pushed me into this room and left.
"Lady Nanami?"
"Lady Nanami? Has she returned?" I hear unfamiliar voices coming from the room next door. "No, but it seems that lady Nanami has left us, leaving the Land God Mark on a stranger." That was Tomoe's voice. I press my ear against the door to listen to the discussion. "Oh this is terrible! Lady Nanami has left us!"
"What shall we do?" The two voices keep worrying and frantically asking questions. I hear Tomoe growl. "I don't know! Why would Lady Nanami leave the shrine just to bestow it to a stranger? She's always been too reckless for my liking!... That's probably why I loved being her familiar..." He mumbled the last part. "So what shall we do with the girl?" One of the voices asks. Suddenly footsteps come towards the door, I panic and go back to my original position. Tomoe slams the door open. He looks me up and down. "I don't see what Lady Nanami saw in a mere human like you." And with that he disappeared into a cloud of smoke.

"Hello new Land God." I see two young children in the other room, but they are floating. I stare in surprise. "My name is Onikiri, and this is Kotestsu. We are they Will-o-the-wisp-children. We are at your serves whenever you call us." They both bow before me, I shake my head. "Haha no it's fine, raise your heads. My name is (Y/n). Is it true that I'm the New Land God?" They both nod. In unison they say, "Yes! You are the God of this shrine! And starting today you will fulfil the duties as the God of Mikage Shrine!" They pull me up onto my feet and drag me outside. They hand me a rack. "First job, rack the leaves." And with that they ran off inside.
What have I gotten myself into?!?
