What's happening?

My vision is shrouded by darkness.

I feel nauseous and dizzy, and I couldn't stop my unsteady breathing. It pained me every time I exhaled, it was like my rips were slowly cracking with every breath I took.

I can hear muffled voices, they're faint but they're there. Some words were clearer than others, while at times it was just a bunch of murmurs and mumbles.

". . .where's. . . Doctor. . ."

Doctor?

". . .the patient. . .unstable."

"What state. . . she in?"

"The patient. .jagged breathing. . . .
severe injuries. . .arm and leg. . ."

Injuries? From what?

Suddenly I feel a sharp object enter the skin of my forearm, I can hardly feel the pain as cold liquid spreads throughout my body. My breathing starts to become steady and the pain gradually becomes distant.

"That should do. . .contact me if needed. . ."

For the next few minutes it went silent, at least, think it did, I wasn't quite sure. I felt like I was zoning in and out of consciousness, probably because I was, but why?

I don't exactly remember why I was here?

Why I couldn't remember the events leading to this?

It's rather bizarre.

It's like I didn't have a life before this. . .

My mind has been blank up until now. . .

I attempt to pry my eyes open but ultimately, I end up failing.

I wanted to scream, I wanted answers but I was immobile, and not able to do anything about it.

Faint steps fading in and out were the only sound available to my ears, apart from the occasional 'beep' sound emitting from something beside me.

It's like this for what seems like an eternity, until finally a soft voice enters my vague perception.

". . .she's in here. . .only five minutes. . ."

A group of footsteps come closer to my side. I didn't flinch at the warm touch of another's hand, if anything, I wanted to lean into it. Maybe that was just because of human instinct–to want to touch warmth–but the touch felt so gentle, so kind.

Soft fingertips gently caress my exposed forehead. I melt under the warm touch, even if my body is already burning hot. I hear some muffled voices, my ears perk at the mellow voice of a boy.

"I can't believe this. I thought she would have been dead for sure. . ."

Their voices were clearer and I could hear every word they said.

Dead? But why? Was I in an accident?

"She's rather pale, isn't she?"
