Chapter 4, Cookie Dough
"Katie, can you please go to the mall to get some groceries?" My mum's voice was muffled by the music that was blasting through my room
I quickly put on some vans and walked down the stairs. "Yeah, I'll go! What do you need?" My mum handed me the grocery list and car keys. This was something new."You're letting me borrow your car?" I asked in disbelieve. She would never let me borrow the car. 1) Because I was a terrible driver. I turned 16 a couple months ago and I had to take my drivers exam 4 times. 4! After the fourth time, my instructor kind of gave up and just let me pass. 2) My mum's car was her baby. Her treasure. Her life.
She just nodded and I grabbed the keys before she could have second thoughts about it.*~*~*~*
Having almost everything in my shopping cart, I made my way down to the ice cream aisle. Some Cookie Dough ice cream wouldn't hurt.
"Cookie Dough, where are thou, Cookie Dough?" A grin appeared on my face as I overheard a boy talking to himself.
"Both looking for the same thing, huh?" He turned towards me and laughed. He was tall and his brown hair laid messy on his head, not in the usual quiff, and only now I recognized him as the slightly taller boy who was goofing around that night when I went for a run.
"Yeah, but I can't seem to find it." He pouted. It should be here somewhere, right?
"Well, we can always go as-"
"THERE IT IS!" He screamed in excitement, running over to the other side of the aisle, pulling out 2 boxes of ice cream. "You need one too?" He handed one to me and smiled. "Ethan's gonna be so thankful." Was the other boy called Ethan? Or was this Ethan-guy a friend of him?
"Ah, I see you got the ice cream." A slightly older voice made me snap out of my thoughts and I turned around, curious to whom it belonged. A woman, about the same age as my mum, stood there looking at the boy next to me and then to me. She gave me a small smile. "Who's this?"
"I'm Katie. Nice to meet you, ma'am." I held out my hand for her to shake, totally forgetting about the accident earlier, making it a bit hard for me to actually shake her hand.
"So Grayson, where do you know her from?" The boy, who seemed to go by the name Grayson, looked at me and turned back to, what I assumed, his mother.
"Oh, we just met. She was also looking for some ice cream." His mother, who I still didn't know the name of, wanted to say something but was cut off by another voice.
"Gray, did you get the ice cream?!" I turned around, finding the boy I was hoping for.
"Yeah and I made a new friend." My cheeks turned red and I gave him a shy smile.
"So, Katie, what I wanted to ask was: what happened with your hand?" I turned back to Grayson's mother and started explaining.
"Well, I bumped into some dude at school the other day and slipped. Sprained my finger pretty bad, but it'll be okay in a few days. The guy who I bumped in to just ran off, didn't even help me up." I said, looking back at the good-looking boy standing directly beside the woman talking to me. He gave me a weird look, almost as if he was embarrassed. "But I should go, otherwise my Cookie Dough will melt!" I turned around again and took off. Was he the boy who knocked me over?
