Chapter 16, Flashback
It was friday today and it had been 3 days since Ethan's text. He gave me a weird look in school when I tried to smile at him but besides that, everything was like normal again. He didn't try to talk to me and acted like an asshole.
Maybe Ethan was trying to get in touch with me just to bother Grayson. They are boys after all. I sighed, what if Ethan is trying to make him jealous?
Grayson didn't like me like that, I was sure of it. But what if he does? A voice inside of me screamed the words.I was sitting at my quiet space, enjoying the weather. We had a free period and it was really sunny out. This was the perfect time to get a tan. There were some cheerleaders practicing on the field and a few football players (all the jocks actually) were looking at them, more drooling than looking actually. Some were showing off their muscles and others were acting plain stupid trying to show the cheerleaders everything they got. It looked stupid.
Hannah was one of the cheerleaders. I didn't expect her to be a cheerleader but she was good at it. She didn't do it for the popularity and she sure didn't do it for the boys. I closed my eyes. After a few minutes, someone blocked my sun and disturbed my silence with her voice. "Why are you out here all alone?"
I opened my eyes, barely seeing anything because of the sun. "Tanning, what are you doing, standing directly in my sunlight?"
A small smile crept on Hannah's lips. "Can I join you? I've had enough of all these boys constantly looking at us like we're some piece of meat. Don't they know I'm a vegetarian?" Her voice was dripping with irony as she laid down beside me.
"Stupid boys."
"Talking about stupid boys, how is it going with that Ethan kid?" Hannah turned her head to me, looking me directly in my eyes.
"Ehh well, he sent me a text a couple of days ago asking me to go to the movies but I didn't respond."
"So you ignored him? Katie that's so mean." Hannah shook her head, obviously dissapointed.
"Don't look at me like that! I thought you didn't like him so what does it matter if I'm mean to him?"
"Because he's still a human being with feelings and a heart! I mean, I don't know about the heart part, 'cause he's so mean sometimes. But still, Katie."
I let out a deep sigh. "I know, Hannah, I know. I feel awful for ignoring him but I'm afraid that if I hang out with him once he'll ignore me again! I don't want that."
"You have a point. But next time, answer him. Even if it's a no, that's better than no answer at all."
"I will, thanks Hannah." Should I text him back now? Wouldn't that be weird after three days? Yes, that would definately be weird. Don't do that, Katie.*~*~*~*~
"Hi mom." I gave her a kiss on the cheek when I walked in to the kitchen. It smelled delicious, she was making an apple pie.
"Hi honey, do you have plans tonight?"
"Nope, looks like I'm staying home tonight." I grabbed a cookie from the cookie jar and went upstairs.I must have fallen asleep 'cause I woke up from my mom screaming my name. "Katie, there's someone at the door for you." Who could that be? It wasn't Hannah, she would've texted me.
I quickly ran downstairs and fixed my hair in the mirror before opening the door revealing someone I didn't expect at all. "Ethan? Why are you here?" My voice sounded shocked and sort of excited to see him standing in front of me.
"I invited you to the movies, remember? You didn't respond but you didn't say no so here I am."
Him saying that made me think about someone."Honey, there's someone at the door for you." My mom walked into the living room, pointing to the door. I jumped up and walked to the door.
In front of me was Oliver with a flower in his hand. "Hi Oliver. What are you doing here?"
"I'm taking you out on a date. Go get dressed up." He handed me the flower as I stepped aside, letting him in.
"Mooooom, this is Oliver. I'm going to change." I quickly ran up the stairs, already panicking about what to wear. Should I wear a dress or is that too much?
I decided on wearing skinny jeans with a nice top. I threw on my doc Martens and grabbed my jacket.
"I'm ready. Where are we going?"
Oliver got up from the comfortable couch and walked outside. "It's a surprise."
"I don't like surprises.""Katie? Are you coming with me or not?" Ethan was waving his hand in front of my face and I nodded.
"Fine, let me get changed. Come in." I walked in to kitchen, dropping Ethan of like I did with Oliver a couple years ago. "Mom, this is Ethan. We're going to the movies apparently." I walked upstairs and pulled on a clean shirt with some shorts. I fixed my hair for real this time and went back downstairs.
"Okay, I'm ready." I gave him a small smile before saying my mom goodbye and walking outside.
"Great." Ethan smiled an adorable smile and followed me. Why did I call his smile adorable?---------------------------------------------
