Tuesday

Coming back for school after a holiday is tiring, but it has to happen. I hopped out of bed into a rush of cold air. I quickly wrapped myself back into my comforter. Slowly, I dragged the comforter from the bed and hobbled over to the air conditioner.

Needless to say, it was freezing. After turning down the AC, I went to Jayla's room. "Jayla, time for school." I said, same as everyday. The past four weeks have been going pretty great. I go to school, come home, do homework, go to Spy Academy on Wednesdays and Thursdays, eat dinner, and go to bed. Even though I have the mission on Saturday to worry about, I try not to focus on it as much as possible.

Jayla got up and started to get ready. After we both finished our daily routine, we went down stairs to eat breakfast.

"Riley, take your sister to school. Your dad and I have an important meeting today," she gestured toward her spy watch. "And we'll be back a little late. Do you think you can handle things at home until we come back?"

"Of course. Don't worry mama. Jayla and I are gonna have fun, right?" I asked Jayla.

"Yeah!" She yelled back and giggled. "Can we watch Frozen and 17 again, and The Poof Point, and Zenon, and,"

"Wow, slow down. That's a lot of movies. We'll be up all night."

"Please, we can be best friends if you watch them with me." Jayla replied with a pout.

"Okay, but on one condition." I laughed.

"What?" She asked in a high pitched tone.

"We can watch them tonight if you hurry and grab your backpack so we won't be late to school. We can't watch them if we're late."

"Okay." She says and races off to the room to grab her backpack and school supplies.

"Okay, you girls have a good day." My mom said as Jayla comes back into the room. She turned her attention to Jayla. "Mommy and Daddy will be back to tuck you in, okay?"

"Okay." Jayla said and smiled.

"Okay," our mom smiled back. "Now go with Riley so you are not late for school."

I drove up to Jayla's school around fifteen minutes later. "Okay, Jay. Here we are."

"Can't I just go to school with you today?"

I laughed. "I think you should hold off on high school for a little while." I saw the sad look on her face. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah," was all she responded.

"Okay, remember what I told you. Don't be scared to raise you hand for help, put your jacket on if you get cold, and drink you milk,"

"Riley?"

"Yeah?"

"Can you bring me lunch today?"

"You want me to bring you lunch?"

"Yeah, all of the big kids get lunch and I want to be a big kid too."

"I see what this is about." I mumbled. "Okay, I will bring you lunch today."

"Thank you, Riley! You're the nicest big kid ever!" She jumped in the front seat to give me a hug.

"Okay, okay. Go to class so you won't be late."

She got out of the car and ran toward her class. As I as driving off the school campus, I let down my window and yell.

"Have a good day. I love you!" Just like my mother would do when she dropped me off at school.
