SaturdayToday; Mission day. I started to worry. I couldn't help it. The mission was not that technical: get in, get out. Seems simply enough right? Either way I was nervous.
"Riley," Danny said and reached for my hand. "Don't stress about this. You've done this so many times."
"I'm fine. Just cold. That's all." I took my hands and rubbed them, trying to get some warmth. It wasn't that cold, but I was nervous. All I've done is practice. This was the real thing.
Danny looked in my direction again.
"Really, I'll be alright."
We showed up to the beach house after about fourteen minutes. I counted.
The mission: acquire a necklace. That is all I knew. Danny may have known more, but he did not let it show.
"Ready?" Danny asked standing outside of the car, steering me out of the thoughts running my head.
I walked with him to the side window.
Danny took out a laser to evenly cut the window so that when we left the broken area would fit right into place. He sneakily climbed through and waited for me to follow.
"Get in, get out." I whispered, trying to prepare for the entrance I was about to make. I fixed my hair and climbed through also.
The house was fairly nice. The walls were beige and freshly painted. The carpeted floor seemed to be new for the next guests' convenience. The decor matched the wall along with dressers and tables. The house was organized neatly and it was easy for Danny and I find the necklace.
"Come on, back here." Danny said and made his way down the hallway. We went into a room and started to go through drawers.
After moments of searching Danny started to say something.
There was no need. Danny removed the necklace from the drawer. It was sliver, a clear silver. It had blue diamonds inside of the outer silver. It was beautiful. "Be careful." Danny said.
As we began to make our way back to the car, someone entered the house. I turned to run, but Danny grabbed my hand and pulled my into one of the nearby rooms. He signalled for me to be quiet. I tried to sit still as I heard footsteps coming closer. It reminded me of the first day of training. This was not the same. We could not run. Officer couldn't tell me and Danny what we were doing wrong. We waited. Waited for them to leave. For them to turn around and realize no one was here.
"Riley, take the necklace." Danny said as we walked further away from whoever was on the other side of the house.
"Where are you going?" I responded
"You got to go to the car. Take the necklace back,"
"Danny,"
He places his hands on my shoulders. "I'm right behind you."
"Okay," I said quietly. I knew that he was not going to be behind me. I knew he was going to try to distract them. I blinked back tears because I could only think of what could go wrong.
"Don't cry. Okay?" He hugged me. He hugged me because he didn't need to tell me he wasn't going to follow me. "Get back to SA, don't go home.
I ran out of the side window. But, I stopped when I got close to the car. I heard it. The hits. The dressers falling. Things breaking. The pain. That was when I knew: I had to go back.
