ONE YEAR LATER

On the bright  planet of Coruscant, Luke Skywalker awoke, screaming in terror from reoccurring dreams that had been haunting him. Only this time it was more intense. He sat up in the dark, sensing everything around him. He could feel Leia's weary presence; He knew he had awoken her. He forced himself to relax. She was only a few rooms away, but she could feel his terror. Luke stood from the bed,  threw on his Jedi robe, and headed out to the rooftop. He could feel Leia do the same; she knew he really needed to talk to her. Luke stood, looking up at the night sky. The light wind ruffled his hair; he took a deep breath and then a sigh. Leia had just reached the roof, to see him standing there.

"I am sorry for awakening you." He said, without turning.

"It's okay Luke, I'm happy to see you out. Everyone has been asking about you, including your son. He is worried and frankly so am I," she said waiting for him to turn. "Luke, talk to me, what's troubling you?" She pleaded. Luke stood there for a moment longer. He was still staring out at the night sky. The lights from the city were still bright even in the middle of the night. The newly rebuilt towering buildings that surrounded him, were blocking his view from seeing the horizon. He was amazed at how fast the city was rebuilding itself. In such shambles the Yuuzhan Vong had left it in, it was exciting to see it's uprising again. When Luke looked up, all he could see were the many ships moving about and he wished he could see the stars as he did as a boy, laying on the sand on his home world, but on Coruscant that was impossible.

"They're just dreams Leia," he finally turned to face her. He tried to say it like it was no big deal, but she knew different by the way he looked.

"Just dreams Luke, look at yourself?" she inquired wanting to know the truth. "You haven't shaven in months, you look terrible."

"Okay," he relented with a deep sigh. Then motioned for her to sit on the ledge. He sat down beside her and started to explain. "I relive  Mara's death over and over and the destruction of the Yuuzhan Vong's home world. I see that machine being reused...."

"That machine was dissembled and you hid it." she said cutting him off.

"I should have destroyed it. I can't help, but feel that this was a mistake."

"Luke don't feel this way. It was a council decision to use it. We all voted on it."

"You don't understand, I voted out of anger," he admitted. "I was the deciding factor. I  feel responsible. "

"You're not."

"That's what  Mara keeps telling me in my dreams."

"You see her?"

"like I see you right now. In them she tells me that, she'll find me, but I know that is impossible. I want it to happen..... so..... much. I know she is gone, so I reason with that. Then I see her death. I have gone as far as trying to prevent it, but it just happens another way. I use to believe that dreams were peaceful, but yet I feel no peace, " Luke had a distant look on his face. "She is different, Leia. She is not.... how I remember her" he said shaking is head.

"What do you mean different?" She asked. He looked away, deliberating.

"It's Mara twenty years ago. She is very young, like she was when I first met her. It's like I'm seeing the future, but she is so young. I know it sounds crazy." He paused for a moment, thinking. "There is something about her eyes. Like.... she could see right through you,... but not. She wears this ring on her left index finger. Its silver intertwining bands and black diamond are very familiar, but I've never seen it before. It's beautiful Leia; I don't know where she got it, but every time I look at it,.... I see her death, and if I am in a trance or if I am sleeping, I come out of it screaming every time. I have no control over it. When it does happen,.... I act out,.... I'm violent. My room is..... beyond recognition. I am.... losing control." Luke stopped to notice the concerned look on her face, and then he looked away. He stared through his window of his dormitory. The ledge of rooftop they were sitting on was almost like a deck. The tower where the window was, stood about twenty-five meters higher than where they sat.
