Chapter 17

Orin was escorted into the main audience chamber, where Senator Roberet Jenerow was waiting for her. There were five people in the room when she entered. As soon as he saw her, he asked everyone to leave. They smiled at each other as people exited the room. As soon as they were alone, they latched onto one another. It didn't last long though. Orin pulled away.

"What is it?" he asked.

"Shonna," she whispered. "We have to end this. If she knew about us, she would kill you." she answered.

"Orin I'm not afraid of her. I'm a Senator, she can't just kill me."

"She could discredit you, and destroy everything you have worked for," she whispered.

"Orin, being here at the Capital, I take that risk every day. I'm a mole remember," he stated. She nodded. "Do you know what really frightens me?" he questioned. She focused into his eyes.

"What?"

"Being this far away from you," he answered she looked away. So he changed the subject. "Does she know?" he asked. Orin looked at him funny. "About your abilities, I mean."

"No, and I don't want her to," she admitted.

"Why? She would train you if she knew."

"No, she has an apprentice. She is not looking," she said. Roberet studied her.

"Are you and, lord Tiddes still fighting for her attention?" he asked.

"Not really, Shonna has chosen someone."

"Who?" he asked.

"Pelleon, she's had her eyes on him for months. I feel sorry for him," she whispered.

"Why?" he questioned. She sighed and drug her finger along the smooth conference table.

"Because he's a slave. He will never know love."

"Does he love her?"

"Yes, but she is incapable of returning it," she answered. The Senator sat down.

"I can see why you feel sorry for him," he said. How long can you stay?" he asked changing the subject again. Orin sighed.

"Not long enough."

"I hate this assignment," he breathed.

"Roberet this assignment has kept her from knowing about us. Don't hate it. The thought of Shonna reminded her of the disk she held. "Here, I'm supposed to give this to you," she said handing it to him. "Shonna said you would know what to do with it."

"Yea," he said taking it from her . "Tell me again why we're trying to destroy someone's life."

"It's for the good of the Empire," She stated.

"I've seen them too together and I," he said shaking his head, but Orin cut him off.

"Ulonna with who?" she asked surprised

"Skywalker," he answered. Orin's eyes widened.

"Wait a minute. You're telling me that; Ulonna and Skywalker are together..... Together."

"Well yes, they've been together for some time. He's been training her. Is this bad?" he questioned.

"Well yea," she said sarcastically. "Why did you tell me this? Now I have to tell Shonna."
