Days had passed and Ulonna had really changed. She was quiet and hung on to every word and everything that she was being taught. She buried all of her Sith training and only used that in which she was instructed. Luke found himself trying, to understand her change. She was not acting like a child anymore. She was easier to train, but he missed her questions.
Ulonna walked the long open hallway that was outside of one of the small Jedi council rooms. She watched out the archways, out in to the city as a stiff warm breeze blew its way through. The early morning sunrise was beautiful. The pink, yellow and orange rays streaked across the cloudy blue sky and found its way to where she strolled. Upon the shiny floor it glared and it lit up the hallway. It was at that moment she noticed the group of two Jedi masters and four trainees, who were waiting for the meeting to end. They were standing to the end of the hallway. Jaina was the first to notice her and invited her to join them, but Ulonna was hesitant. She knew of the awkward feeling she would have when she joined them, but she tried hard to ignore it.
"Do you know everyone," Jaina asked. Ulonna nodded her head yes and then she directed her attention to Kyp Durron, who was also a master and had seen most of the war with the Yuuzhan Vong.
"What's your story?" she asked. "Why aren't you in this meeting?"
Kyp cracked a smile. "Someone needed to stay out here and keep you kids in line."
"Oh, of course," she smirked.
"So young Ryessa, how is your training coming along?" he asked.
"Very well, thank you," she answered. Kyp stared at her for a moment with a concerned look.
"Does he run with you?" he asked referring to Luke.
"Why?" she asked, but he didn't answer, instead he asked another question.
"Do you have to slow for him to keep up with you?" Ulonna stared at him for a moment.
"No. Master Durron, where are you going with this?" she demanded. Kyp cleared his throat and didn't really want to say.
"Some of us feel that he should have stayed in retirement."
"Really, and why is that?" she asked. Kyp bit his lip.
"Training someone, one on one takes a lot of effort. We are worried that your training might be lacking," he answered. Ulonna stared at the floor for a moment. "Lacking," she said under her breath.
Just down the hall Luke stepped out of the room, frustrated that the meeting wasn't going very well. He leaned against the wall and then realized that he wasn't alone.
"What are you saying, that I should be taught by a younger master?" Ulonna demanded an answer.
"Yes," Kyp admitted. Ulonna gasped, she was disgusted with his answer.
"You, perhaps," she barked.
"I didn't say that."
"But you implied it," she said softly. Kyp looked thoughtful for a moment.
"Okay, what if I said I could do better." Ulonna smiled and chuckled to herself. She shook her head and said, "I've said it once before and I will say it again. I would rather take age and knowledge over youth and arrogance any day." She answered. Kyp grumbled and asked.
"Are you saying I'm arrogant?" he demanded.
"I didn't say that."
"But you implied," he stopped in mid-sentence, and realized that she had just turned the table. Ulonna cracked a smile.
