I backed up. Alec had a knife in his hand and looked ready to use it. His eyes were wide and his hand came up. I closed my eyes, only to hear the clang of the knife and felt the warm embrace I missed. My eyes widened. He was hugging me? Why? He betrayed me and obviously didn't love me. He let me go, now holding me by the arms.

"Y-You're alive!? Oh thank God!" he exclaimed. I just looked at him, shocked. "Lena, I'm so sorry, I had no choice! Medusa forced me to do that! She-"

I cut him off.

"Bullshit!" I yelled. His eyes widened at my harsh tone. "It's obvious that you did it out of free will! Did you even care!? About me!? About our missions!? About anything!? Cause in my mind, you didn't! After what you've done! To Death City! To our friends!" I paused a bit. "... To me..."

He let go of my arms but instead, he held my small hands in his larger ones, my hand not even visible in his own. I looked up at him, but to my surprise, he had tears in his eyes.

"Lena, I did care... I always cared... Look at you Lena... You're beautiful, smart, fun... and your the best person I've ever known. That kiss during Death's Light, don't you know the legend? Cause I only found out after that." I shook my head. What he was talking about, I had no clue.

He led me into the cabin after picking up the knife and I saw him put it away, getting out what looked like a very old book. He blew the dust off it and put it on the table. I stood beside him as I read the legend out loud.

"The Kiss of Death's Light,

Though it shines so bright,

Can not be a token,

Let alone broken.

The Kiss of Death's Light

Can never get blight,

Not by mission or lie,

But only if they die..."

I looked at Alec. "So... the only way for the bond to be broken is if one of us... dies?" I questioned him. He gave a nod, causing me to look down. He sighed.

"Medusa said that if I didn't help her, she will break the bond... not by killing me but..." he trailed off there, but I continued.

"By killing me..." I finished. He nodded and kept his head down. Gently, I laid my hand on his cheek and made him look at me. His eyes locked with mine, causing me to blush, but I didn't dare look away. "Alec, I'm sorry... I should never have jumped to conclusions like that... I just thought that you didn't really love me and that hurt... But why didn't you tell me when we were fighting in the catacombs?"

"She told me that of I tried to warn you before the kishin was awake, she would most definitely kill you... I couldn't let that happen..." he replied.

I gave a small smile as he turned his full body to face me now. My arms went around his neck, hands locking beneath his long blonde hair and I could feel his hands on my waist. I blushed and looked down. He gently lifted my head to look at him, his index finger and thumb on my chin, and before I realized, he was leaning in. My only thought?

Wow...
