RAIN'S POV
"You need to tell me everything," he kept on pestering this woman, who claimed to be our mother, and whom I really think is my mother. Hindi ko na muna iisipin ang mga ito dahil sa ngayon nasa panganib si Rhys dahil sakin. He could've been tricked that I was in danger so he would panic. He was never like that, I know that for a fact. Yet, he seemed strange when he came to the Philippines and starts doing things I'm not aware of. Or had he already knew something was up so I haven't seen him in a while?
He knew that I wouldn't be easily beaten up or get killed by whoever that is, but he must've known something in the very first place for him to act like that. Did he knew that Mom's alive? or that Rainer is not our real father? Rhys, what the freak are you up to. That investigation for those gangs who are possibly plotting on overthrowing me is just a smokescreen. It was never his real intention. Was he there to warn me? Was he trying to figure out everything by himself all along?
"Twenty years, Ruine. Twenty f*cking years! You think it's just a freaking argument? No! You left me and your daughter and your son and that's the truth."
"You worked as a Belligerent. You, yourself, should've already known how Red do things."
"Oh, my apologies for not leaving the org because I fell in love with a man whom I never thought would chose a mission over me."
"Apology accepted." When he said that, Mom immediately step on the break and gave him a quick punch in the face. She was driving the car and Ruine was on the passenger seat. The three of us were at the back so when she did that, both of the guys bumped themselves trying to protect me from the impact yet I was still and unbothered. They glared at each other and I mentally rolled my eyes.
"Don't you dare say that to me."
"What am I supposed to say then?"
She sighed in disbelief and continued to drive. "I'll drop you off the circle. I'm going to save my son without your help."
"He's my son, too."
"Stop it. Both of you," I interrupted. This will never end unless they talk. I mean talk in private, without us being around. "You both don't have the right to call us that after what you did to the both of us. Rhys and I were doing just fine."
"What do you mean fine? Look at what's happening. You are searching for a very dangerous thing and your brother's in the hands of the devil." She retorted. "I had to leave because of that stupid thing."
"Then tell me why!"
"Because she died of it!"
Everyone was quiet in the car and stopped near a sidewalk. Lumabas siya ng sasakyan kaya sumunod ako. Naiwan sila doon sa loob. "What do you mean she died of it? Did grandpa did it?"
"The witch's knot are what your grandma called them. Those..." she portrayed to what I had on my neck. "Those were keys to a safe."
"A safe to what?"
"The―"
I got another call.
"We're here."
Hinila niya ang braso kong kinaroroonan ng techwatch ko at siya ang sumagot rito. Lumabas na rin ang tatlo at lahat ng atensyon ay nakatuon sa kaniya. "You still eat alone," she said. There was silence for a second. He may have been surprised that somebody answered the phone. Does that mean he really did what Ruine told her about their grandfather? "My, my. What a surprise Louise. I always thought you'd still be alive but how the universe has really made a string for you and my grandchildren," he said softly as if he was teasing her. It's the first time it felt creepy. I never really imagined that I grew up with all these lies.
