•Chapter 3•

I snickered dryly. His remark really pissed me off.

What the fuck does he mean "My mom is Tina Parks."? Honestly, just shut up.

Tina only has one child, AJ, and the fact that someone could be so audacious as to arbitrarily come into her home and lie about being her son in front of AJ annoys me.

I shot the boy a sour smile before taking a couple steps closer, getting nearer so that AJ wouldn't hear me this time.

"Stop fucking playing around, dickhead. I'm gonna give you five seconds to tell me who the hell you really are before I set your ass on fire with my damn cigarette lighter." I spat, my expression one of utmost seriousness as I stared him directly in the eyes.

He laughed again.

"Look, I don't know who you are either Little Miss, but I'm trying not to be rude here. So how about you leave me alone or get out of my house." He replied.

At this point I was furious.

"Your house?" I smirked

"Pretty Boy, say one more fucking word and I rip your ass to shreds."

He rolled his eyes, that same smirk playing on his lips.

"You probably could too considering I'd never hit a lady."

His politeness enraged me. Who did he think he was? He was treating me as if I was a guest in my own damn home.

He was mocking me.

Angrily, I grabbed the upper end of his shirt as he opened his hands wide, shrugging and grinning as my eyes blazed, saturated in abhorrence and complete fury.

"Lola stop!" I heard, just as I was about to take a swing.

Turning, I met Mrs.Tina, her eyes droopy with tears as her hair lay strangled in a messy bun and smudged makeup stained her complexion.

I let my mouth part in both surprise and sympathy as I let go of the stranger.

"Momma Tina, are you alright?" I inquired, rushing to her side as she stared up at me.

"Yes." She nodded, a delicate smile precariously perched on her lips.

"Mrs. Tina, I can explain." I began

"I came to drop off the supplies after Nat and I finished at the booth and when I knocked on the door AJ opened it and we played and then this guy comes in." I snapped, pointing at the intruder.

"And he's talking about how he's your son and stuff which is obviously just a load of bullcrap because-"

"He is"  I heard a faint murmur, my eyes shot up as I traced the sound to Mrs.Tina's lips.

"He is my son, Lola"

*************

"So let me get this straight: When you and your boyfriend were teenagers you ended up getting pregnant but couldn't afford to raise the baby and as a result, you willingly gave your baby to your boyfriend and his family because he promised to take care of the child. But then, your boyfriend moved to Wyoming, dumped you and never contacted you again until now?" I asked, staring at Mrs. Tina as she occasionally nodded.

What the hell.

A bizarre expression was plastered across my face as I pondered my thoughts

"Why did he contact you?" I whispered, unsure whether or not I should've asked.

We had left AJ to watch TV and were now discussing the situation, Mrs. Tina, the stranger and I.

"He said he was having a crisis and couldn't put Andrew in danger."

I glared at the boy, inferring that he was Andrew. I shot an understanding smile in Mrs. Tina's direction as her shoulders seemed to droop. Gathering myself, I erected my posture.

"Look, Momma Tina, nothing's gonna change okay? I can help you. Whatever you need, Nat, Gina and I will find a way to fix it. We always do."

Mrs. Tina grinned a bit, a slight wave of hope overcoming her as she stared at me. I saw tears brimming her eyes as we sat in silence. Her lips stayed pressed together.

She was on the verge of a breakdown, I could tell. And with that, I rushed to hold her.

"Don't worry about it. We can help you if you let us." I murmured softly as I felt her tears muffle into my shoulder.

After less than forty-five seconds of crying, she quickly excused herself from the room while I made my way back to my chair.

I sat quietly.

I had never seen Mrs. Tina cry ever, but I guess if I had never seen my son since infancy until now, I'd be a little overwhelmed too.

I sighed heavily and slowly raised my head from the gaze it held on my lap. Looking up, I was immediately startled as a pair of greenish hazel eyes stared at me intently. I glared back as he sat fixed in trance, peering at me in what seemed utmost fascination. His gaze was deep and binding as we silently engaged in somewhat of a staring contest. I smirked and looked away, rolling my eyes as I got up from the table and tried to find an exit.

"Wait." He mumbled, grabbing my hand before I could make any sudden movement.

Where his hand met mine, his body soon followed until we were standing face to face. I retracted my fingers from his grasp.

"Yes?" I retorted, my mind tired and disturbed.

"I just-.. I mean, could I talk to you for a little bit?"

I trudged back to the table and flopped down my belongings.

"Talk." I said as I flounced my head into the palms of my hands and directed my attention toward him.

He smiled lightly and returned to his seat. I sat for a good two minutes while he simply stared at me and I quickly became irritated.

"Dude, what the hell is your problem? You asked to talk, but now that we're sitting face to face, you won't? I'm tired and want to go home so if you would please either begin or end this session so I can fucking leave."

I watched as his eyes widened and he laughed.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I really didn't mean to actually. I just wanted to apologize."

I stared at him, a tad surprised as he smiled back.

"It's obvious that you're close to my mother, so in the grand scheme of things, it would be extremely unbeneficial to all of us if you ended up hating me. Therefore, I apologize-"

"Lola." I finished for him as he tried to remember my name.

"Lola" he repeated "I'm sorry."

I nodded as he began speaking again.

"Also, I don't think you should drive home tonight. It's past eleven o'clock. So, you can sleep in the room my mom cleared for me, and I'll take the couch."

He finished, getting up from his seat without even letting me mutter anything in the sense of agreement.

I watched his lean, muscular body stride away as I sat in the wooden seat, unsure whether or not I should thank him or challenge him.

I sighed, deciding I'd just go to bed instead.

"See you in the morning, Parks." I mumbled, throwing my valuables on the floor and diving into the bed.
