•Chapter 1•
Lola's POV
I smirked as I sat down at the diner, waiting on Gina and Nat to get their asses over here.
They always met me after school at Mrs.Tina's Diner so we could talk and joke and just fuck around.
My eyes gleamed, a small smile on my face as they both entered at exactly 4:05, Gina displaying a nagging look as Nat trailed sluggishly behind.
I laughed and waved my hand as if they didn't already know I'd be here in this exact booth.
Nat immediately perked up a bit, his dark brown hair and green eyes brightening as they saw me. Gina used to tell me he liked me but.. I don't know, I guess I've never thought about Nat that way.
Plus, I didn't have the time to like or love someone in that sense anyway. It was stupid and pointless.
And frankly, the term 'love' just annoyed the hell outta me.
Love is an illusion.
We all say we love each other but in the end, no one really does. If we all truly loved with consummate hearts then I assume there'd be no divorce, no cheating, no lying, and no leaving.
Love is temporary.
Love is a an unjust, insensitive lust that simply goes away after an attraction fades.
Love is overrated and it does not exist.
I blew the straw cover off my straw and into the air, watching as its frail paper fluttered while gravity pulled it down to the table.
"Hey, Lo." Gina grunted as she flopped her schoolbag onto the floor beside her.
"Damn, Gina. Rough day?" I questioned as she gave me a weak smile
"Sorta." She mumbled
"Hey Lola" Nat enthused, a broad grin on his cheeks as he arrived at the booth.
"Hello Nathaniel." I smirked, he immediately rolled his eyes.
"Lola.. Come on. You know I go by 'Nat' now." He murmured as I chuckled softly
"Ok ok, chill. I know." I said while picking up a menu from our table.
I don't know why I even looked through the menu's at this point. I'd been here so many times that the $5.95 Spicy Chicken Sandwich with a side of waffle fries and a small sweet tea was already embedded in my brain.
As I sat, order-ready, I peered back over to Gina who just seemed annoyed.
"Dude. Gina, what the hell is up with you?" I spat, both impatiently and inconsiderately as she stared up at me.
I sighed. Yeah, I'm a nosy bitch, but that's my best friend.
"Yeah know, you should really work on your whole 'comforting' approach." She replied back, a half smile on her face as I returned it.
"Well, at least you're smiling more now." I mumbled.
"But really, Gina. What's up?"
"She found out Jason cheated on her with Megan Teeler. Personally, I knew it was gonna happen because Jason is a dickwad." Nat chirped nonchalantly as Gina glared at him furiously
"Shut up, Nat! That's none of your damn business! You don't even know Jason." She shot back mercilessly as Nat smirked.
"I know him well enough to know that he has a record for sleeping with the most-"
