"WHAT?!" you asked Germany incredulously for the third time.
"I know it's an odd request, (y/n)," Germany repeated, "But please, I need you to babysit Italy while I run some special training with Japan."
"But isn't he, like, 20? I think he can handle being by himself for one day," you pointed out.
"That's what I thought last time. When I got back, however, the house was on fire."
You blinked.
"You're joking, right?"
Germany ran a hand through his hair and sighed, shaking his head.
"He tried to make pasta because he was hungry. But he forgot to put water in the pot when he was trying to 'boil' the noodles. Look, I know your babysitting business is meant for children, but I have no idea what else to do."
"Oh. I see," you said. "Well, I don't have anything other appointments today, so I guess I will. What time should I come over?"
"How does 2 in the afternoon work?" he asked.
You nodded.
"Perfect! I'll be there."
"Thank you so much, (y/n)," Germany said in relief. "I won't forget this."
"No problem, Germany! See you later!" you said, waving to him.
He waved back as he walked back toward his house.
-Timeskip-
You knocked on the door to Germany's house. When he opened the door, he looked relieved.
"Hello, (y/n). I'm glad to see that you came. Come right on in. Italy is in the living room. I wish I could stay and talk, but I'm already running a little late to meet Japan. I hope it goes well!"
"Bye, Germany!" you said. "I promise I'll take care of everything!"
You stepped inside of the house as Germany ran off. You stared after him before closing the door and heading to the living room.
"(y/n), (y/n)!" you heard someone yell. You looked over to see Italy rush over and give you a big hug. "Germany told me that you were here to play with me! I'm so excited!"
You gave him a quick hug back, grinning.
Aww, he's so cute!!
"Well, what do you want to do?" you asked him.
Italy seemed to be thinking.
"Hmmm... I wanna paint!"
"Sure thing," you shrugged. "Can you go get the paint?"
"Mm-hmm!" Italy said. He skipped off to go get the paint as you sat in the living room, waiting.
When he came back, he was carrying two small canvases and a container full of paint tubes and brushes. Then you noticed that his shirt was sporting a rather large red stain. Italy looked a little guilty as you demanded, "Italy, what did you do?!"
"I was testing the paint to make sure that it worked. Sorry, (y/n)."
"You were testing the paint... on your shirt?"
"...Yes."
You sighed.
Geez, no wonder Germany had me babysit him!
"Did you get it anywhere else?" you asked.
"There's a little bit on the floor in the garage," Italy admitted.
"I'll go clean that up. You can start painting. I'll be back in a few minutes. Can I trust you not to make a mess?"
"I will be SUPER clean, (y/n)!" Italy promised.
"Okay," you said slowly.
You left for the garage, stopping to get a mop and a bucket of water. Once you reached the garage, you nearly shrieked.
"You only spilled a little bit of paint, huh?!" you exclaimed, mostly to yourself.
On the floor, there was a huge rainbow mess everywhere. From the amount of paint you saw, you wouldn't have been surprised if Italy had nothing to paint with. You sighed and started mopping up the mess. When you were finished, you dumped the disgusting brown water outside.
"I'm back, Italy," you announced as you reached the living room. A quick glance around the space proved that he had kept his promise - it was completely clean.
"Yay! I painted something for you!" Italy cried. He handed you his painted-over canvas, which wasn't quite dry. "Do you like it?"
You stared at the painting, a light blush forming on your cheeks.
"I-Italy? Is this me?" you asked, flattered. On the painting was a beautifully interpreted image of you. You were standing in a field of flowers, smiling up at the sun.
Italy nodded in response to your question, smiling.
"How did you paint this so fast?" you asked in awe. Although Italy was a complete airhead, you had forgotten that he was an amazing artist. You shook your head as you added, "That doesn't matter. I love it. Thank you."
"You should paint something, too!" Italy said. "There's another canvas right over there."
"Um, okay," you said, walking over to grab the canvas.
Once you had readied your paints, you hesitantly started. You were having fun until about halfway through the painting, when you messed up.
"Argh! I can't do this. Sorry, Italy, I'm a terrible artist," you admitted.
Italy looked down at what you were painting.
"Is that a bird?" Italy asked.
You nodded, pointing to the beak.
"I'm surprised you could tell. The beak looks like a carrot."
"That's okay! Here, I'll help you fix it!" Italy volunteered.
Your cheeks turned bright red as he placed his hand over yours and slowly guided it over the canvas.
Italy is the last person who I'd expect to do something like this...!
When he took is hand off, the beak was miraculously fixed.
"There!" Italy said proudly.
"Thanks, Italy," you said, smiling.
You set down the painting just as the front door opened. Germany walked in and looked relieved to see that the house was all in one piece.
"Thank you so much, (y/n)," the blonde said gratefully, flashing you a smile. "Um... sorry to bother you again, but do you think you could come back at the same time tomorrow?"
You grinned, practically tripping over your words as you exclaimed, "Sure!"
