You scrambled into a nearby abandoned shop and took refuge underneath the counter. It was crazy outside - after the strange red-cloaked man told everybody that they couldn't log out of Sword Art Online, everybody had started to panic and scramble, taking supplies and seeking refuge. You were one of the only ones who didn't panic, besides a pretty girl with long light brown hair. You hadn't seen where she went, though.
You drew in a deep breath and decided to check your stats. You had been knocked into a building and pushed over before you had taken shelter here, so your HP had gone down by a little bit.
You leaned back and decided to strategize. There wasn't much you could do right now except to defeat all 100 of the game's bosses, which was next to impossible. At least, unless you joined a guild... However, you didn't trust guilds. There were a lot of sleazy characters that hung around in some of them, as well as a lot of people that wouldn't think twice about sacrificing their own comrade in order for they themselves to survive.
The other thing you could do is find a partner to help you defeat the bosses...
But who would want to partner up with me?
Before you had been told that you couldn't log out, you hadn't really accomplished much in the game. You had explored a little bit, but you hadn't defeated any monsters or animals at all. In other words, you hadn't even leveled up yet... which you definitely needed to do in order to defeat even one boss.
Just then, you heard someone pounding on the door. You froze and pressed your back against the shelves beneath the counter, your heart pounding.
Just then, the pounding came to a sudden stop. You still dared not to move, afraid that you'd be attacked and raided for supplies, even though you didn't have much.
Without warning, the door burst open and a cloaked figure fled inside, slamming the door behind them. After that, they rushed behind the counter as well, plopping down right beside you.
You were paralyzed for a moment as you stared at them. They were so panicked that it seemed they didn't notice you. Until you let out a terrified gasp did they see you.
The person scrambled to their feet and drew a sword. They pointed it at your chest.
"Make one move and I won't hesitate to slit your throat!" they hissed in a female-sounding voice. However, you could detect the fear they were trying to hide.
You threw your hands up and scooted backward, eyes wide.
"S-sorry! But you're the one who came into here second, not me!" you said defensively.
The person - who you assumed was a girl - sighed and sheathed their sword again.
"Sorry," she sighed. "I guess I'm a little... jumpy after... you know."
"It's alright," you said, pushing yourself to your feet. You stuck out your hand. "I'm (y/n)."
The girl shook your hand. "I'm Asuna," she said, pushing back the hood of her cloak to reveal herself.
You gasped.
"You're the girl I saw earlier!" you exclaimed in surprise.
"Huh?" Asuna asked, furrowing her brow.
"After everybody started to panic, I - I noticed you. You were the only one that was calm and collected."
Asuna responded, but you didn't hear what she was saying. You were too distracted by your own thoughts.
I guess I lied... I also remembered her because she's...
Your face started to heat up, and felt your stomach flutter as you finished your thought.
