The gym was covered in decorations. There were super cool red tinted lights, a disco ball, and hearts all over. The first 15 minutes of the dance was amazing! I wore a turquoise medium length dress with a glittery sheer and sequins on the lining. It was accented with a white glossy belt and white clutch purse I finished the ensemble with these amazing silk Prada stilettos that were worth a good 3 months allowance! They were worth it!
Then things slowly took an extreme turn. While I was dancing with Derek, I noticed Andrew all by himself. I got thirsty and decided to get some punch. The table was covered in glitter, paper hearts, and red and white plastic table cloth. The punch had a cheap watered down taste to it. It was more than I expected but it could have been better. The food was pretty good no doubt donated from Ms. Swanson. I was about to go back to the dance floor, where I saw Derek still dancing the night away. I was focusing really hard trying not to get swept up in the crowd of students. Every student, on the dance floor, dancing along to the beat. A few select students actually looked good. While other made utter fools of themselves. I felt embarrassed for them. There was one dancer that truly caught my attention. He was lanky and quirky. I watched as he went down the list of ancient dances starting at the running man and ending at the cabbage patch!
I was so distracted I didn’t notice Andrew walking my way with a cup of red punch! You’d think a running back who has avoided hundreds of tackle and has to be light on his feet would be more smooth. Apparently Andrew hadn’t got the memo! We collided in a explosion red punch and glitter! None of the juice had gotten on my dress but Andrew had managed to it get all over my white stilettos! I was glad I brought a spare pair of flats incase my feet began to hurt. Sadly, that wasn’t the case. “Sorry! I didn’t see you. I….I…,” scrambled Andrew lost for words.
“Save it! Cindy’s calling you over,” I yelled in his ear hoping to overpower the music.
“She doesn‘t own me!”
“Riiigggghhhht……..”
“Hey Andrew, you’re here with me remember,” Cindy reminded him and sealed it with a kiss.
“Oh! Kim! I didn’t notice you there. Nice shoes.” she greeted coldly right before dragging an embarrassed Andrew back to the dance floor.
“See you around,” Andrew waved as I rolled my eyes in a frustrated manner.
Stealthily, I snuck to my locker and replaced my stinky punch soaked shoes in my locker with my shiny black ballerina flats to match my glitter drenched turquoise dress. I also switched my headband and belt to black as well. As I closed my locker, I noticed a teacher patrol retiring to the hospitality room for what I guessed was the end of his first shift. He looked tired and brain dead surely the dance wasn’t that crazy! When he finally noticed me, without a word he ushered me back to the gym doors and left. While I re-entered the gym, I found Derek still dancing as if I hadn’t left. I joined back in with him only to be replaced during the first slow dance of the evening. A flood of girls rushed to the dance floor snatching who ever they could for a partner. By the time I found Derek he was dancing with some other girl. Derek gave me a innocent shruggish look and continued dancing. All that was left was the door.
Quietly I inched toward the door as the music serenaded the crowd. I never was one for dances. I was more of a single type girl anyway. I had already made it to the front doors of the school when I hear my name being called! I figured it was either Derek or Andrew. I didn’t care to see either at the moment. I wasn’t mad at Derek, I just needed to clear my head in the fresh air. After a few steps I felt a hand touch my shoulder.
It was Jacque! He looked amazing in his black tux. A small gust of wind tussled his hair. Smoothly he shook it back into place. I couldn’t help but notice the look of worry in his face. Than in an instant it vanished with the replacement of his warm smile. I couldn’t help but notice how amazing his hazel eyes looked. After a while I noticed his lips were moving and realized that he’d been talking to me! “You know,” questioned Jacque.
“Um…uhh…Yeah totally,” I stammered utterly confused.
“It’s great to be out here… How you say…alone no?”
“No…I mean yes”
“Why were you leaving?”
“I guess,” I began as I glanced back at the dance “I didn’t come with the right person”
“Maybe next time we could go together…as Comment dit on?… amis?
“Yeah…”
“Or…” Jacque moved in so close I thought he might hear my heart beating. I gazed deeply into hiseyes. He smiled. I blushed. But just when we were about to kiss, he grabbed my arm and yanked me all the way to the back of the school! Quickly we ran behind the bleachers. He held me tight and watched as if on look out or something. “Quiet,” he whispered covering my mouth. I had always dreamt of being held by Jacque. Under normal circumstances, I would have loved the way his blonde hair felt against my cheek. I could smell his cologne. It. Was. Addicting! But I knew something was wrong. I knew that this was odd and I couldn’t let the crush rush get to my head. I was about to try to break lose when I heard voices. Not the kind crazy people hear. I mean actual voices. I could barely make out what they were saying. One had a deep voice while the other’s voice was raspy and shaky. I thought there were only two. Unexpectedly, I heard them walking my way. I thought my heart would burst. It was more excitement than I wanted to handle at the moment. If this is what high school dances are like I don’t think I was missing anything! Out of nowhere, Jacque kissed me! Not your average peck either! He carefully held my head in place as he ran his fingers through my hair. It was amazing! He was a better kisser than Andrew! Why was I still thinking about him? We broke up like weeks ago. Right? So I shouldn’t feel guilty. OMG! I’d finally kissed Jacque and Andrew’s gonna ruin it for me. It’s not that big a deal. I couldn’t help but notice that the foot steps had stopped! The raspy voice called back to the deep one “Nope just two kids snogging away!” Then he walked away laughing. When the footsteps faded, Jacque pulled away.
“Sorry about that,” Jacque stated breathing heavily in a surprising British sounding accent!
“Um…Jacque?” I stated rather confused.
“Well actually It’s not Jacque…I’m Gregory…Prince Gregory Hamilton of Hampshire actually”
“Huh…I don‘t understand”
“Well, It’s a long story but I guess your safe now”
“Longer than your impromptu kiss back there?” I joshed and noticed Gregory blushing!
“Well If you’re really interested…I’m from Hampshire. Those men are with King John. He’s an evil tyrant that has taken over many countries. During a horrible accident the countries funds have receded. King John offered his wealth to share if I wed his daughter. My subject were suffering! I decided to go through with the wedding. I had no choice but to marry the princess until...one of my servants overheard the princess’ plans to overthrow the kingdom! She planned to poison me! When I told my parents they sent me to hide out in America as a French exchange student. I can tell by your shock that it has worked so far. Anyway I came down here and I guess they know. If they see you with me it might put you in danger”
“How…what…Oh I get it your joking right?”
Gregory’s face went cold, solemn, and serious “No this is serious…I hate to say this but we can’t be together it’s just too dangerous…You’re a amazing girl but I can’t risk it so….” Seeing my confusion, he pull out a pendant with a royal emblem! The same one we studied in World History. Only true blue bloods could own these. I froze unable to believe it was true! Followed by him taking me in his arms and softly kissing my frozen lips. Then, he walk off leaving me there to sort things out.
