It had been a month since I’d talked to Gregory and I thought things were gonna go back to normal. To my surprise they did! Until March came around, when I found a note in my locker! I carefully read and reread it.

           Hey Kim,

I miss you and I feel so stupid.

I still wonder if it was for the best.

I just wanted to let you know I still think about you.

I couldn’t believe this Gregory/Jacque wanted me back! Or was it Andrew? Crud, I don’t know who sent me this note. They could have at least signed their name. How was I supposed to know who it was? Maybe they’ll leave a clue. DING! The school bell interrupted my train of thought. I guess it’s time for first period. As I entered the room, I noticed Cindy was sitting next to Eric! I noticed there were two empty seats one next to Andrew and the other next to Peter. I still couldn’t stand Andrew even if he had wrote the note. I headed to sit by Peter. Andrew was a jerk and no note would fix that! Without even giving Andrew a second glace I walked straight toward Peter. Peter had a confused look on his face as he whispered “Um Kim? Aren‘t you gonna sit by Andrew?” This caught me off guard. I didn’t even think Peter knew I had liked Andrew!

“No…because Andrew is a…what’s the word?…JERK!” I exclaimed loud enough for Andrew to hear. I notice he shifted uncomfortably in his seat. Astonishingly he turned around and winked at me! He was such a flirt. I rolled my eyes and looked back to Peter. Peter’s freckled face seemed even more confused. Then out of the blue, he gets up and switches seats with Andrew! I was about to move but, Mrs. Larson walked in.

“Good morning class” she sang cheerfully.

“Good morning Mrs. Larson,” the class moaned.

“Everybody please sit down. Today we will be working on a project that will last about 3 weeks! That means partners…so I hope your sitting with someone smart! Oh! Seems we have an odd number of students…Peter work with Thomas and Trenton”.

Thanks a lot Peter. Now I’m stuck with Andrew for a week! What was I gonna do? Andrew had pretty good grades in Chemistry but he is still a jerk! Mrs. Larson began to explain the project and pass out papers. Andrew didn’t say a thing the whole class period! I was so baffled. When the bell ring, he gathered up his stuff then left! I knew something was up. I hastily gathered my things to follow him. I noticed he was talking to Cindy. It was brief and tense. Surely Cindy wasn’t interested in Eric. I headed toward the hallway where Tina and I meet to walk to PFD. I peeked back at Andrew and Cindy but when I looked Andrew was gone! “Hey Kim,” Andrew greeted warmly as I practically jumped 5ft in the air.

“What do you want?” I coldly replied.

“I just want to walk you to your next class.”

“Why?”

“To be nice…?”

“No Thanks!”

“Come on. Are you still mad at me?”

“Hmmm….let’s think you cheated on me with Cindy and then choose her over me!”

“I’m not even with her any more”

“Whatever I got a class to get to…”

“Hey Kim,” Tina swooped in and saved me, “Hey Cheater….”

Finally catching on to the fact that I didn’t want him around, Andrew meshed into the crowd of students. I hate to admit but I kind of miss Andrew. He was so nice to me before the whole Cindy business happened. I can’t help wonder what would have happened if I gave Andrew a second chance….

“Kim? Are thinking about Andrew again?” Tina questioned as I began to tune back in “If you are don’t he’s not worth you time!”

Before I could rebuttal, We walked into PFD and were given our assignments. I headed to my cubby to get my supplies for our sewing project. I couldn’t focus very well though because of everything going on. I finally gave up on sewing for the day and decided to tell Tina about the note. She thought it was from Andrew! To her it was obvious. I didn’t tell her about the incident with Jacque/Gregory/whatever or whoever he was. We spent the rest of the class period discussing this topic. We discussed how Andrew would know my locker. We discussed how he wouldn’t want to risk letting Cindy know that he still had feelings for me so he left the note so she wouldn’t see. Her explanation for today’s hallway thing was just an attempt to get Cindy’s attention since she was all over Eric. Tina seemed to be making a good point but I couldn’t seem to help but think that Jacque might have been counted out to easily. I mean he did kiss me, drop this huge royalty bomb on me, and leave… After what felt like an eternity the bell finally rang. We put up our materials and walked out on the way Brad appeared and got all mushy with Tina. After a few awkward moments, I resolved to walk ahead to French.

The room was empty. The bell hadn’t rang yet and I was the first in the classroom. I began to doodle in my spiral, when the teacher walked in. Or so I thought…

“What are you drawing,” Gregory inquired in his British sounding voice.

“Huh?…oh…nothing really,” I said hoping that he wouldn’t notice the goosebumps that suddenly appeared.

“About that night at the dance…We’re still friends right?”

“Yeah I guess, except…most my friends don’t avoid me for whole month!”

“I told you why I had to do that. Kim, I’m nothing but trouble.”

“Don’t worry I understand completely…”

“Kim don’t be like….,” Gregory began but didn’t finish because, just subsequently his group of teenage zombies came in jerking all his attention away. After what was the longest 7 minutes of my life, Our teacher finally emerged in the doorway.

She cheerfully glided into the classroom greeting “Bonjour class!”
