Kelly's POV
I walked into the shoe store. I spied the expensive pumps on the display stand. I grabbed my size and swiped Leo's card, entering the PIN number.
FAILED
I looked at the screen in confusion.
"Ugh, can I try that again?"
I typed it in again and it failed again. I clenched my fists and then relaxed and took out my own credit card.
"Can I use this one for second thoughts?"
Mia's POV
I floated on my back in the outdoor heated pool. The sky was a pretty blue.
"Mia, Leo is so cool, better than our stepdad," Joe suddenly said.
Much better than Ned. I thought. Oh brother, you didn't see what I saw. And your very lucky you didn't.
"Yes so true," I said after a long pause.
"Can I tell you something?"
I stood up in the pool. "Yeah sure."
"Promise you won't tell anyone?"
"Promise."
Joe never talks like this. It must be something important or interesting.
"I saw what Ned did to mom," he began.
Oh no.
"You did?" I gulped.
"Yes. She winces in pain every time she gets up now. Mom deserves better than this."
That's the most mature thing I've ever heard him say. He took it extremely well, considering he is only twelve years old.
"I think Leo is way better for mom," he continued.
I stared at him. I never thought of it like that. He was right. Mom really loved Leo.
"Apparently they are only best friends," I pointed out.
"Oh please," he said. "I'm twelve and even I can tell they have chemistry. They even have a ship name: Kleo."
Joe. He's my dumb step brother. Until this day, I thought he was stupid, because he sucks at schoolwork. He doesn't use logic. Common sense doesn't exist for him. But today, I realized that Joe isn't dumb at all. In fact, he's been smarter than me today. He just doesn't try at school. This boy is not at all dumb, because he just pointed out the most obvious thing. The one thing everyone else can't see.
Kate and Leo would make a perfect couple.
Kate's POV
I held up a dress and showed it to Leo. "What do you think?" It was a black long sleeve dress.
"It's nice," he smiled. He held Bear while I tried out dresses. Mia and Joe went to the tech store next door.
Ned would never go shopping with me. Leo's so nice!
Leo got up, holding Bear, and walked over and picked up a breathtaking royal blue strapless dress, with a sparkly belt and jewels on top.
"I've been spying on this dress since we entered the shop. I think it will look perfect on you," he beamed. "Go try it on."
I didn't think twice. I walked into the changing room and walked out a little while later.
Leo just stared at me. "Babe, that dress was MADE for you!"
