Chapter nine

Ned's POV

I watched New York whizzing past as I headed to Leo's house. Good thing I remembered his address.

We pulled up in a huge driveway and payed the taxi. I walked up to the door and rang the doorbell.

A middle aged lady opened the door. "Hello, can I help you?"

"I'm looking for Kate Winslet. Is she here?"

"She was here. Her and Mr DiCaprio went to the Titanic premiere today," she explained. "I could tell them you were here."

It's better if she doesn't know. Or she will probably flee.

"Uh...no it's alright," I said.

Just then I heard a yell. Of a boy and girl.

"Joe! Give it back!"

It was Mia. I'm sure they don't know about what I did. "Mia!" I yelled.

Mia came up to the door and stared at me in shock. "What are you doing here?" She asked.

"I've come to find you guys and take you home," I said.

Mia looked at me for a while. Then without saying anything, she left. The lady at the door said: "I'm sorry, you'll have to come back."

"Those are my kids!"

"I'm not allowed to let anyone in."

"Where is the premiere?"

The lady gave me an address. I called a taxi again and gave him the address.

Leo's POV

Kate was the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen. She looked flawless. I couldn't help but stare at her.

The reporters asked me and her questions. Luckily they didn't ask too much about our personal lives.

We entered the after party and there was a lot of "oh my god it's been ages!" And "so good to see you again". Everyone was happy to see each other.

After a long time of meeting and greeting, and a long catch up with the director, James Cameron, everyone grabbed a partner and started dancing.

"May I have this dance?" I said in a deep accent British accent and bowing.

"Oh course," Kate replied in the same accent.

We chatted about who we had met and what we did during the dance. Then all of a sudden, I noticed the song "Crush" came on, by David Archuleta. 

Kate goes silent and we dance awkwardly in the eerie quietness between us.

I looked at Kate straight in the eyes, and she looked straight back at me. This is awkward.

My heart started beating faster and faster. Is it just me or is it really hot in here?

I decided to break the silence by "accidentally" stepping on Kate's foot.

"Oops," I said poking my tongue out.

She smirked at me and stepped on mine.

Kate's POV

I could feel my heart beating out of my chest and feared that someone could hear it.

I don't know what happened, the song came up in the background I felt like it was totally relatable, although I wish it weren't.

Leo looked at me with his gorgeous eyes and I almost melted. But he's my best friend, and I have to remember that.

Why am I feeling like this? What's this feeling? That slight feeling I had when he looked at me and we danced in silence. I felt like my heart was telling me something else...

My thoughts were interrupted my a familiar voice yelling in the background.

"Kate! Kate!"

It was Ned. He was being dragged away by security guards.

"Ned?" I looked at him in shock.

Leo let go of me and looked at him with anger in his eyes. "What is that asshole doing here?"

"I don't know, but I'm going to find out."

I walked over to him and told the security guards to let him go.

I led him to the corner of the room and motioned for Leo to stay there, because I felt a lot safer having him watching us just in case he was going to make a move.

"Ned, what are you doing here?" I demanded.

"I've come to get you Kate. I'm so sorry for the way I behaved. I was drunk and you know that's not me! Please give me another chance I promise I won't drink ever again," he pleaded.

"No Ned. You blew it. I couldn't take it anymore! Do you know how much you hurt me physically and emotionally?"

"Kate, please. I promise you I will be a better husband and father!"

His apology sounded sincere. I thought for a moment. "You came all the way to New York?"

"Yes! I came here for you Kate. I love you," he confessed.

Should I take him back? What happens next in our relationship? I don't know if I should give him another chance...

"Okay Ned. One more chance. It's your last, I'm telling you that and you better listen loud and clear. Last chance. Okay?"

"Okay Kate thank you so much! I'm so blessed to have a wife like you."

"Thanks Ned. I have to get back to the reunion now. You should have a look around New York City for some nice hotels. Book in five people. Me, you, and the kids. I think Kelly doesn't like us hanging around Leo's house."

He nodded. "Okay I'll go look around some hotels and we can stay there tonight."

"I'll book a flight back to England tomorrow," I finished, and walked away.

I went over to Leo, who was leaning against a post drinking some wine. I filled him in.

"You're leaving? Tomorrow?" He tried not to looks sad but I could tell he was.

But then he smiled at me. "I'm so happy for you Kate! That you two patched things up," he grinned. "But I swear to god if he lays hands on you again in an abusive way, he won't see daylight again! If anything happens you know where to come."

I know I can always rely on you, oh Leo what will I do without you?
