Kate's POV

"Am I the only one who finds this tastes a bit strange?" Leo questioned.

"What do you mean?" Kelly said dryly.

"Like, a strange vanilla flavor," he said.

"You're taste buds have gone insane!" I shook my head at Leo. "It must be the hospital food."

"Probably."

We continued to eat as I caught Kelly glaring at me. She seemed to really hate me, I hope it's alright that I'm staying here a bit longer. I don't want me getting in the way of her and Leo.

Although Leo claims that Kelly is not right for him, and they are going to have to break up. I hope Kelly doesn't take it to hard.

Leo and I helped Kelly clear the table, as usually Leo's cook Jasmine does it. We washed up and me and Leo slipped away into the night.

Walking bare foot on the soft sand, with the end of our pants rolled up, we walked along the sandy beach. The waves rolled in and out, as the full moon lit the path.

It was breathtaking.

Leo grabbed my hand. "Run!"

We ran through the shallow water and laughed, it was exhilarating, and I hadn't felt that way in a long time.

"You've been very nervous over the past few days," Leo remarked.

"Have I?" I said panting.

"Yeah. What is it?"

"Well, my best friend has almost died twice..." I started.

"No, that's not completely it. Your lies, I can see straight through them Kate," he doubted.

"I can see straight through yours too," I smiled. "I know you remember what you said under your breath back at the hospital when you woke up. You're just not telling me," I pointed out.

Leo was quiet for a minute and then he said "I will tell you, but only if you can catch me first," he grinned, and shot off into the night.

Then he quickly scrambled up some rocks and stood at the top while I peered up at him.

"What's bothering you Kate?" Leo shouted from the top of the rocks. Then his eyes widened. "Ooooo is Kate in love? Again? For the forth time?"

Actually I've always loved you.

"No!" I blushed.

"Who's the lucky guy? Don't tell me it's that creepy director David! Or some random hot guy you saw on the street!" He rolled over on the rocks laughing.

"Eww hell NO! He's so creepy!" I screamed. This was my chance to catch him. I started climbing the rocks.

"Oh no you don't," he smirked and jumped onto some even higher rocks. "Kate, guess what."

"What?"

"I'M ON TOP OF THE WORLD!" He shouted out into the dark sea, repeating a line from the all famous Titanic.

He gave me another brilliant grin and carefully jumped off the rocks and ran like mad down the beach.

"I will catch you!" I yelled after him.

Then he suddenly disappeared.

"Leo?" No answer.

Then I screamed as arms wrapped around me.

"Not if I catch you first!" He laughed.

"You scared me you idiot!" I growled and then laughed. "Are you going to tell me now?"

"I said if you catch me. But I caught you. So no, it's doesn't count."

"You didn't give me a chance!" I sulked.

"Yes I did! You just weren't fast enough!"

"Those rocks were dangerous. I almost passed out from running," I lied.

"Aw you okay now bubba?" He said to me like he would say to a five year old.

I rolled my eyes. "Very funny, you almost killed me from fright just then!"

"But you're very much alive right now," he said, giving me another that-makes-you-the-stupid-one-now look.

It was plenty of fun, that is, until I realized how dangerously close Leo was holding me, I could feel his warm breath on my face, in the cool night air.

Alert, and conscious of it, I felt myself being pulled closer to him like a magnet. Even when I gave a desperate attempt to pull away.

Leo when silent and seemed to suddenly realize it. When our lips were inches apart, Leo suddenly pulled away.

"My arm is starting to hurt and it's getting late, we should probably head back now," he said tensely.

What the hell were you doing Kate?

Then to break the tension, he gave me another childish grin and suggested we race each other back, which worked like a charm.

"Not fair! You are way faster than me!" I whined.

"Calm down, you can have a head start."

Leo's POV

I eyed Kate as she ran towards the house. I really hope she doesn't bring up the near kiss incident we just had. I felt myself slowly leaning in more and more.

But did my eyes deceive me? Or did Kate lean in as well?

What the heck were you thinking Leo, Kate is your best friend, she's got a husband and children. She doesn't love you like that.

I shook the thought off and ran back down the beach after her. The distance between us grew smaller and smaller as I was faster than her.

The waves still came crashing over but couldn't quite reach me. Time and tides, never wait for anything.

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to have Kate finally in my arms the way I want to. But I try not to think about it too much because I know it's not going to happen.

But I decided to let her win for once, as I slowed down and watched as her wavy blonde hair flew in the wind, and her figure became smaller and smaller. Then she disappeared into the house.

Next minute, I saw her on the balcony of the room she's staying in, as she leaned onto the railing and watched me walk towards her and the house.

I stopped right in front of the railing and looked up at her. She laughed and stuck her tongue out at me.

She was so beautiful, as the moonlight shone on her face, making it glow like an angel.

My heart once again started beating faster.

So this is what if feels like to be truly in love with someone.
