[Prologue]
*Shaye*
Ever since I was a little girl, I knew that my life wasn't going to be the fairy tale many werewolves experience. It seems to be a curse with the Matthews/Donovan bloodline. My grandfather, Landon Matthews, he is living a painful life without his sister and best friend. My father, Lucas Donovan, has witnessed his family's murder... including my mothers.
And now, it's my turn. Both of them were disabled. Blind and Mute. Now I'm deaf... So yes, there is definitely a curse on this family. There has to be; what other reason is there? It's not a coincidence that three generations experience different disabilities.
My father has done well with keeping my disability low key. He has taught me many different languages... All of them through the mind link and through sign language. Though, I doubt I will ever get the opportunity to sign to someone. Werewolves just scoff and roll their eyes when I try. 'Speak through the mindlink', they always tell me.
But that's not my language! I am deaf... I speak through sign... That is how I communicate. My mother, father and brother were the only one's who seemed to understand. Well, Uncle Travis, Uncle Jake and Aunt Lisa were always there signing with me as well.
I never thought the day would come when my mother would die... I mean, I knew it would happen. But not when I am eighteen...
I told myself; this has to be my tragedy... This has to be my breaking moment that now labels me a part of the Matthews/ Donovan blood line.
But no...
That isn't my tragedy.
My tragedy is standing across the funeral grounds, hands shoved into his dress pants, blue eyes searing into mine. He was handsome... I'll give him that. He made my wolf howl with delight.
But he's my tragedy.
Because he's the Beta of the Prowler pack.
The pack that killed my mother.
