Pulling up to the beach, you spotted D'Angelo holding himself up against a small pole. In the distance you could see your baby boy, Desmond, playing in the sand with Lo's nanny.By the look on his face, you could tell that he was having the time of his life. The smile on his face had never seemed so bright, and that was what you lived for, your son's happiness.
As you stepped out of the car, you watch D'Angelo's facial expression change. His usual relaxed posture had stiffened.
After you guys decided to break it off 2 years ago, you both haven't been on the best of terms. You tried constantly to put on a front, pretending like your heart wasn't hurting, but deep down, you missed him. You missed your family, you missed the small family picnics, the movie nights, everything.
It sucked that you had to do everything individually, separately. Attend his karate classes by yourself, going to parent teacher conferences by yourself, taking him to amusement parks by yourself. It was unhealthy forsure, but it was better than arguing in front of him.You both weren't cordial enough to be in the same room, which was a shame because it was very important for you both to be around each other for the sake of your little boy. For him to hang with both of his parents, without any tension what so ever, was something that you hoped for. But that hasn't been possible.
You've tried a countless amount of times to set up a meeting with Lo, discuss the whole 'being around each other for the sake of Des' discussion, but it's always results in an argument.
The last encounter that you two had wasn't so great. The unnecessary shouting, drinks flying. You don't remember ever being so angry in your life.
You both had agreed to lunch last week, and the first few minutes went smoothly, that was until you had mentioned his girlfriend. You didn't want her around your child, at all. You wouldn't say she's a gold digger, more like an opportunist. Just using Lo to climb up the ladder of success.
It was already hard enough for Desmond to deal with switching back and forth between his mother and father's homes, and for him to become attached to this women just for her to one day up and leave without care in the world would just mess him up. No one was going to put your baby through that, D'Angelo of all people should be mindful of that.
"Hey,"
"Hey..", he replied, darting his tongue out and dragging it between his lips slowly. Something he did that you'd grown to love over the years.
"So..you called me here to talk, what are we here to talk about exactly?"
"Everything.."
"And what is everything?"
"Des, Yasmine, us..", as soon as the word us slipped from his lips, you chuckled.
"Now Des, we can talk about him all day if you want. But Yasmine, I could care less about what you have to say about ole girl. And there is no..", you waved your finger back and forth between Lo and yourself.
"..us, baby boy. You made that very clear the last time we met up."
Shoving his hands in his pockets, he glanced down at the sand resting between his toes.
"So you don't care that me and ole girl aren't together anymore?"
Biting your lip, you shook your head.
"Well, I'm not going to jump for joy, but I can't say that I'm disappointed or sad about the situation."
You laughed,"I mean..she was bad for you Lo.."
"Yeah, you was right..", he admitted, nodding his head.
"I should've listening to you and all of your nagging,", he chuckled.
Shifting all of your weight onto your right leg, you crossed your arms over your chest.
"I was only nagging because I didn't want that trick around my child..", your face softened after a while.
"..and, I didn't want to see you get hurt.."
You didn't even have to look up to know that he was cheesing.
"Aww, you care about me,", he gushed.
Blushing, you shoved him,
"Shut up. You know I care about you, you're the father of my child. I'll always want what's best for you...idiot.."He shook his head,"Nah, I mean, you still have feelings for me,",he smirked.
Twirling a strand of hair on your index finger, you sighed.
"Okay..maybe I do, but how can I not have feelings for you after all we've been through."
He opened his arms wide, earning an odd look from you.
" 'Mere.."
"Nah.."
Smacking his lips, he said,
"Girl, if you don't.."
"Okay, okay,"
You took a few steps forward before wrapping your arms around his waist. His arms wrapped around you neck, basically, and he rested his chin on top of your head.
It had been so long since you've been held by him, and it just feels so right being in his arms, so you were melting in his hold.
The scent of the cologne that you've been use to him wearing was starting to fill your nose, bringing you comfort. His hold on you was tight, making you feel safe and secure.
He dipped his head down, allowing him to whisper in your ear.
"I never stopped loving you, baby girl."
Your heart began to break slowly as you felt somewhat offended. Pushing him away, you shook your head.
"And I'll never be anyone's second choice,"
His face twisted in confusion.
"What? You're not my second choice."
You pushed a tendril of hair behind your ear before crossing your arms over your chest.
"Oh really, you've treated me like shit for the past 2 years while I've treated you with upmost respect but now since that hoe is gone, you wanna pretend that you've loved me all this time."
"My love for you has always been real!"
"Yeah.Fucking.Rig-"
Before you could even finish your sentence, his hands were cupping your face. His eyes studied your face, until they land on your lips. He closed his eyes before brushing his lips against yours. That sparked a few memories of the amazing times that you've both had together.
He pulled away, pressing his forehead against yours. You felt yourself falling deeply in love again just by staring into his chocolate brown orbs.
"You and my son will never be second to anyone, I promise you that.."
