Tonight's the night that D'Angelo Russell lets his girlfriend of 4 months, Kalonie, know how he feels. He had been feeling this way since month 2.

The feelings just hit him out of nowhere. One minute they were sitting on the couch together watching a movie, next he caught himself staring at her longingly, realizing how much she meant to him and that he loves her.

Planning on how he was going to tell her was extremely difficult. Whenever he'd open his mouth to express himself, she'd look at him with those big, dark brown orbs, and he'd immediately become nervous.

However, tonight, there's no stopping him. It's now or never and never wasn't an option, leaving now as the only choice.

D'Angelo held her hand, leading her into the bedroom. The vanilla scented candles giving off a golden glow, brightening the dark room a bit. Kalonie was never a big fan of red roses, and he remembered that, scattering white rose petals around the room. Soft music played in the background, a few of the songs being her favorite ones.

He looked over his shoulder, scanning the expression on her face. A warm smile being present as she looked around, taking in everything.

Yeah, it was cliché, but she thought it was adorable. Never had she ever had a boyfriend do this for her, which made it special. It's the thought that counts.

They stopped walking, standing at the foot of the bed. He took both of her hands in his, mustering up the courage to confess his love for the small woman.

She eyed him, concerned for him. He looked nervous, she hadn't seen him this way before, not even before a big game.

"Baby, you okay?", she asked, her thumb rubbing against the top of his hand. Something that usually calmed his nerves.

He squeezed her hands,"Yeah, I'm just stressed, hoping that you'd like this."

"I love it,", she gleamed.

"You do?"

"Of course,", she giggled.

"It's not too cheesy?", he asked.

She pinched her index finger and her thumb together,"It's a little cheesy, but it's cute."

They both laughed, a small blush covering his cheeks that he tried to hide, but failed to do miserably.

As the laughter stopped, the room fell silent. D'Angelo was still fidgeting, nibbling on his bottom lip.

His hands became clammy in her hold.

"Baby girl, it's something I really have to get off my chest."

Furrowing her eyebrows, she stared at him.

"Okay..", she trailed.

D'Angelo wiped the sweat from his brow, before sighing. He gazed into her brown eyes, becoming nervous as always, but this wasn't going to stop him from telling her how he felt.

"Look, baby..I know we've only been together for 4 months, but these past 4 months have been absolutely amazing. I don't remember feeling happiness like this since I've been drafted. I'm starting to have strong feelings for you, feelings I've never felt before. These feelings make me feel so afraid, but I don't want them to go away."

Her face softened, and the glow from the candles bounced off of the walls and onto her face, exposing the blush upon her cheeks.

Kalonie looked down, D'Angelo placed his finger under her chin, forcing her to look at him.

"What I'm trying to say is..I love you."

Kalonie almost choked on her own saliva.

"What?"

"I love you, Kalonie. And I'm going to prove to you how much I do..", he said bending down on one knee.

She was scared, if he couldn't hear her heart beating in her chest, he was deaf.

Her brain couldn't put together the proper words, causing her to be completely speechless.

Reaching in the pocket of his black slacks, he pulled out a small red velvet case. He flipped the case open, revealing a heart-shaped pink and white sapphire ring in white gold.

She gasped, covering her mouth with her hands.

"L-Lo..I..I c-can't."

"Don't worry baby girl, I'm not proposing..yet,", he chuckled.

Kalonie grasped onto her chest, sighing in relief. She was not ready for marriage. Of course, she wanted to marry him one day, but she wanted to at least wait until they've been together for 2 or 3 years. They were too young, still trying to figure each other out, figure themselves out.

"This is just a promise ring. I'm making a promise, a promise to respect and protect you. I promise not to hurt you, I promise not to lie, I promise to stick with you through good times and bad times. But most of all, I promise to love and cherish you.", he said while slipping the ring onto her finger.

He stood, smiling while wiping away the tears trickling down her cheeks.

"I love you so much," she confessed, immediately wrapping her arms around him.

He kissed her temple, rubbing her back.

"I love you more, baby.."
