You both laid in bed cuddling each other. His arm was wrapped loosely around your waist, and his thumb softly stroked the exposed skin of your hip.
Your head was rested against his chest, arm wrapped around his torso while you listened to the slow, calming beat of his heart.
Just the sound of his heartbeat, was slowly but surely lulling you to sleep, the same way his deep voice usually did.
It was silent, but not an awkward silence. The silence was peaceful, no words needed to be said.
The longer you spent in his embrace, the deeper you felt yourself falling. Part of you wanted to run, just run away and never turn back.
All those stories you've heard about NBA players, the women that surround them, ruining relationships of many happy couples. The distance and time players spent away from their lovers, children, family.
Was this relationship a waste of time? Would it be thrown away as soon as he starts his new NBA life?
Our relationship is too profound to be destroyed by any obstacles thrown our way, you thought as your hold on Devin became stronger. He responded, pulling your body closer.
"Baby, you alright?" you looked up, resting your chin on his chest.
"Mhm, why you ask?"
Although his eyes were closed, he was still able to raise a brow.
"Because, you won't stop fidgeting.."
Sighing, you sat up and crossed your legs so that you were sitting Indian style. You faced Devin while he turned onto his right side and propped himself on his elbow.
"What's on your mind?" he yawned.
"A lot.." you sighed.
"Like..?"
"Us,"
His eyes widened. The only time someone says they want to talk about "us" it's usually the break-up talk.
Now he was sitting up with her. The satin blanket was no longer covering his bare torso.
Your eyes slowly examined his body before getting the real issue here.
"Do you love me?" running your hands through your messy hair, you watch Devin roll his eyes.
"Seriously?"
"I'm serious.." you whined.
Devin sighed before sitting up completely. He stared at you for a bit, gazing into your eyes.
"I love you more than anything in this world, baby."
Your cheeks began burning.
"Okay, good. I love you too."
"What's this all about anyways?" he questioned raising an eyebrow.
"It's nothing really," you laughed.
"Just my stupid insecurities getting the best of me, that's all."
Lifting the cover, you buried yourself beneath them and Devin followed suite seconds later.
You two were facing each other, laying in silence. He wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling you closer to his body once again.
The feeling of his warm skin against your cold skin was enough to make you sob.
Sighing against his touch, your eyelids were becoming heavier by the second. But before you could drift off to sleep, Devin whispered something into your ear, giving you reassurance.
"Well, whenever those stupid insecurities begin to cloud your mind, just remember that I'll always love you, baby girl. I put that on everything."
