Later that morning, Harry and Melody were sitting together in the coffee shop joking around. Well, really Harry was joking around trying to distract Melody from doing her work because he was bored and she was being boring.
But Melody wouldn't budge although she really, really wanted to.
"Harry stop, I really need to work." She told him, not meaning a single word. But of course, he didn't listen because he liked Melody so much and just needed all of her attention. After she lightly pushed him away he finally stopped and sighed.
"Okay, fine, I guess I'll just go find my friends to hang out with." He said with a tone hoping Melody would change her mind and then start pestering him for all of his attention as well.
"Have fun." She replied, not even looking up from her note taking from a textbook that was way too big. Harry let out a huff and pouted before turning around to walk out of the coffee shop. Melody breathed out a chuckle at his (adorable) immaturity.
She continued to work on her papers, but it wasn't long before one of her friends sat down in front of her with a smirk on her face. Melody just looked up before quickly returning her eyes to read her heavy textbook.
"You never told me you were dating Harry." It was only then Melody lifted her head from her work.
"What?" She asked, with furrowed eyebrows.
"Harry. You're dating him right?"
Then the realization hit Melody, she had no clue what her and Harry were. They kissed and basically spent majority of the day together, they cuddled a lot, they even shared a bed every night. And well she was sure Harry felt the same way about her she does about him, but she just didn't know.
"Um, not really?" She replied as more of a question rather than an answer. Kate seemed to get it though, as she made her way out of the conversation.
"Well, I'll see you later today, yeah?" She said, touching Melody's arm before getting up, Melody sending her a small smile. She couldn't give a proper goodbye, not with the thoughts she now had swimming around her mind.
As the day went on, she was still just constantly thinking about what her and Harry even were.
Were they just really good friends who kissed a little? Maybe that was the better option, that way she wasn't getting too close. Who was she kidding? She had basically opened up to Harry more in one night than she had to anyone in her entire life.
And she had a toothbrush in his bathroom and he had a key to her home. And she was wearing his sweater which was warmer than it should be but it was because it's Harry's sweater and Harry makes her feel warm in her usually cold life.
Even if they weren't anything, Melody was in too deep to distance herself from Harry. She fully knew that it was over the second he bought her coffee. Even before that, when they made eye contact. Her eyes suggested she needed help and his suggested he would.
There wasn't a good enough way to describe how Melody felt when she was with him. Somehow he made her feel important, sure she usually had a lot of attention on her when she was with friends or at parties, but that all felt like she was putting on a show. With Harry it was behind the scenes, where she wasn't acting to be so happy all the time but instead, herself.
But he made it feel like being herself was the only her she should be. And she liked that.
So it wasn't that shocking when that night they were cuddled up in her bed, talking and making jokes when she suddenly got quiet.
Harry being Harry of course noticed because by now he knew her better than her own parents knew her. She didn't even have to look at him to know he was going to ask his infamous question.
"What's wrong" he asked his arms still around her with furrowed eyebrows.
Melody very well knew by now that she wasn't going to get out of telling him, and strangely she wanted to talk to him and open up to him, that was something she definitely not used to. Usually she just stayed closed off when she was feeling any deep emotions but not with Harry. He was changing her in the most dramatic ways and she wasn't even paying attention.
"Well like Harry we've been spending a lot of time together and like we kiss a lot, I have a toothbrush in your bathroom, and you have a key to my house and, oh my god, Harry we even share the same bed every night, but what are we?"
Harry diverted his eyes from her, furrowing his eyebrows in thought how he always does, so he can say the most perfectly worded sentence how he always does.
"You're right, Melody, we basically do couple stuff without actually being a couple, so will you do the honors of making me extremely happy and being my girlfriend?"
Although the gesture was sweet and all she's wanted to hear for weeks and he had a goofy and adorable grin on his face, she couldn't help but cringe.
"Are you kidding me?" Harry kind of looked like an innocent, confused child by her reaction. But really, could you blame him? "Don't get me wrong, Harry. I want to say yes, I really, really do but just not like this. Not at two in the morning when it was really awkwardly brought up and basically I had to not all that subtly hint to you to ask. It's just not what I'm going to say yes to."
Harry just pouted before Melody drifted off into sleep and Harry sat there trying to think up and undeniable way to ask her.
