platonic smiles // josh dun

"get up y/n! did you know that your class starts in 20 minutes!!", your roommate screamed at the top of his lungs.

your roommate, josh, has been your roommate for about 2 years but you've both been friends forever. since you both got into the same college you decided to get your own apartment and live together. a dorm was not a choice because sharing with 2 more people would have been a nightmare!

you groaned and flipped over now with your face in your pillow.

"josh I really don't have time for you right now! I'm trying to sleep!", you hollered back.

"get up right now! you can't be late again! your professor is gonna be pissed!" Josh's yelling got closer and all of a sudden a pillow flew through the air and hit the back of your head.

"ughhhhhh josh.", you said, your voice muffled.

about minute passed by then you heard josh starting to laugh.

"leave, kid." you spoke.

"ATTACK!" josh yelled.

"wha-ow. what the hell?"

about 10 pillows pelted you almost everywhere on the backside of your body. you sat up to see josh smiling so wide.

"you're ridiculous, you know that?"

"ridiculously fun! now get ready, I won't let you be late again.", josh retorted.

after rushing to get ready, you finished in about 15 minutes. you were dressed in black skinny jeans, a black shirt with your jean jacket (that had pins stuck all over it) over it and your converse.

you threw your mascara you were just using into your makeup bag, turned off your music, and went to open the bathroom door. when you opened the door josh was standing right outside of it.

"what are you doing, weirdo?"

"dude I have to pee. I called your name like 5 times but your music was to loud I guess."

"sorry josh but you said you didn't want me to be late.", you winked and grabbed your backpack.

"h-hey y/n?." josh said with his head poking out of the bathroom. "I want to hang out with you after class so don't make plans, okay." josh said with a smile.

you nodded and left the apartment.

class was over, finally. you made your way home on the cracked sidewalks. the chilly air slapping your cheeks making them redden.

about 10 minutes later you entered the apartment.

"josh I'm home! you here yet?", you turned around and shut the door.

josh has a class 25 minutes after yours starts. his class was music which is a short class so josh was usually home before you were.

"in the living room y/n!"

you stepped into the living room which was warm and cozy. on the right of the room sat josh huddled on the couch with a big blanket watching a scary movie.

"horror, aye?" you asked.

"I'm doing it for the spooks." he smiled.

you plopped down on the couch beside him. immediately after he paused the movie and said, "okay, so I thought we could go out on the roof around 6:30pm and watch the sunset just talk and stuff. is that cool?"

"sounds like a plan, babe" you said jokingly.

you got up and went to your room.

6:30pm arrived and you got a text from josh saying "go on the roof". you giggled at how on the dot he was. you pulled on your shoes then left the apartment. your apartment was on the highest level so you had roof access. you climbed up the flight of stairs leading to the roof and before you knew it you were there.

josh was sitting in a chair that had another one right next to it. you said hi and sat down. after awhile of talking about how your days were, silence began to settle in. josh knew that he would regret what he says next but he did it anyway. he said, "you what is annoying?"

"hmm." you hummed looking at the orange and pink sunset.

"being your friend." josh said watching the sky too.

"I am truly offended, Joshua!" you turned your head to face him.

"no no, not like that. we've been friends for a long time and all we are are platonic smiles." josh said looking down.

"w-what do you mean josh?" you said confused.

"I want to be able to look at you-",he looked up, "and not think of us as just friends."

you said nothing and continued staring at Josh's face.

"Im tired of being friends! I want to eye gaze for too long and smile without thinking about being just friends. I want to dance with you under the stars as friends who have a little something more. I want to run in the rain with you like old times but have something more. I want to be with you."

you stood up. then josh stood up turning to leave for thinking he made a mistake. you turned him around and kissed him. your black  silhouettes moved slightly but still plastered on the emotional colored sky. you broke the kiss and danced under the newly glowing stars that just popped up.

"now this, this is what I waited for." josh said twirling you around with the biggest smile on his face that you've ever seen.
