"Kyla, dinner's ready!" Mom yelled.
I smashed the door open and thunder blasted behind me. I was drenched from the stormy weather. I could feel the dripping water from my clothes and hair that made the floor all filthy.
"Where have you been again?" My mother asked.
"To the village..."
"To that house again?" She said with an angry tone. "Until when will you quit your ghost hunting? There are no such things..."
"Will you two please stop arguing about that again?" It was father. He sure was hungry from working in the field.
As usual, I got scolded while we were dining together. My foster parents and I. They were always against me of going to that place -- the abandoned mansion in the village.
Since I was young, my parents always told me that I was brought to them by an old lady at their doorstep, and that they knew nothing about my real parents. All that's left to me as a reminder was an old pendant that was owned by my real mother. It had a golden heart shape with the initials of my name carved at the center.
I started ghost-hunting when I was 10 years old. When my classmates had a courage test, I was the only tough one who could handle the challenge of going to the school canteen at night.
"Kyla, let's go home now, I'm scared." I was with Lily that time. She is my only friend and until now, she is still so cowardly but wouldn't leave me alone. She held my arm tight as we entered the old school canteen. I heard some noises. Like there was someone else there. I opened my flashlight and looked around. There was no one there. Lily was awfully trembling beside me as we went deeper in the vicinity. It was dark and filthy and I finally saw something moving from afar.
"Kyla! It's the ghost! Let's run!" Lily screamed. I still went to look to that creature and as I went closer, there it was, a dirty black cat. "Is this the ghost you were saying?", I said to Lily. We went back laughing for we conquered our fear. And that's when I started to enjoy ghost hunting until this day.
