"Tomorrow, will you still go through with the wedding?" He asked.
"I don't know. It's hard to disobey father. You know how terrifying he could be, right?" She answered while leaning on his shoulder.
"Will Richard take care of you if ever I hand you over?" He asked again.
"I hope so, Jack...I hope so" She sighed.
Katherine, daughter of a high-class family, was arranged to marry Richard, the only son of the Krauss family. Obviously, their families' interest was to take over the riches of the other. It was hurtful for Katherine for she was in love with a lad named Jack, a butler in their mansion. They've been seeing each other secretly beneath the large tree behind the mansion. They both knew that their love was forbidden but it was difficult to fight against their own feelings.
"Katherine, take this." Jack gave her a golden heart-shaped pendant. "It was from my mother. I carved your initials on it as sign of my love for you."
Katherine smiled. "Thank you, Jack."
Two months passed, Katherine got married to Richard. They lived in the mansion where Katherine grew up, making Jack, their personal butler. Every morning, Jack would bring breakfast in the couple's bedroom which was located in the right wing of the mansion. Richard would always be out early for he was busy about the family business. Jack comes to their room, seeing the poor state of Katherine. She was battered by her cruel husband because of jealousy. He knew of Katherine's relationship with Jack.
Jack was the only one who gave her comfort for this was the only thing he could do. Until they knew that Katherine was pregnant.
"Abort that child", Jack said.
"Why should I? I'm her mother. I have the right to decide if I want to keep her or not." Katherine answered with strength.
"She's unwanted. I know he forced you to...", Jack wasn't done talking when Katherine answered.
"What do you know about that? You're just a butler."
Those words broke Jack's heart into pieces. He went silent and walked out of the room.
