I went back to the mansion alone the next day. There were many questions in my mind that I wanted to ask Jack about. He wasn't in his room so I waited for him there. I tried to look for something in the room to give me a clue about his past. But surprisingly, I found nothing. There was just this mysterious closet that was locked securely. I tried to break the lock when Jack came.
"Stop!" He shouted, "You may not want to see what is inside there"
"I'm sorry, but, what is in here?" I pointed.
"It's my corpse." He said.
I was a bit afraid. "oh, okay"
"Uhm Jack, tell me, do you still remember how you died?" I asked.
"I committed suicide." He said.
Now, it was clear to me that he was holding sorrow in his heart. I can feel that this pain have driven him to end his life.
Jack told me about a girl named Katherine - his first and only love. Katherine's death, because of being battered by her cruel husband, had been the cause of Jack's suicidal.
He said that Katherine had a daughter that he left to an old lady down the outskirts. He knew that he could not love the child because she was the daughter of his rival. But his love for Katherine won against his hatred. He knew that Katherine loved that child so he made a way to let the child live. After that, he strangled himself inside that closet.
"I thought if I died, I would be with Katherine in peace", he said.
I could not catch the right words to say to cheer him up. I was silent.
"I've been waiting for her in this mansion for almost two decades." He added.
"So that's why you though I was Katherine?", I asked.
"Well you...kind of… look like her." He softly uttered.
I was surprised to see him a bit shy for what he said. I tried to tease him. "Hey, are you blushing?" I laughed and suddenly got too close to his face. At that moment, our eyes met, my heart pounded so fast. What is this? Am I falling for a ghost?
NO WAY!
