After several failed attempts at convincing Nicole that everything is going to be fine when we have dinner with my Mum, she finally agrees to go tonight. She's texted me about what she should wear, how she should wear her makeup, what not to say in front of Mum and Gemma, things like that. I keep telling her to just be herself and everything will be fine but she's still a nervous wreck. Maybe I'll be able to calm her down more when I see her.
My phone begins vibrating in my pocket several time, letting me know that someone is calling me, so I take it out of my pocket to see that Nicole is calling me. I answer quickly and put the phone.
"Hey, babe." I say.
"Hey, uh, do you think that you could come over here and pick me up after you get ready?" She asks.
"Of course." I reply. "I'm almost ready and I'll head that way."
"Okay, thank you so much."
"No problem."
-
Arriving at Nicole's apartment, I knock on the door then hold my hands behind my back as I patiently wait for her to answer the door. After a few minutes, she opens the door and let's me in, greeting me with a quick kiss.
"You can just walk in, you know." She informs me. "Unless it's before 9 AM and past 9 PM."
"Noted." I chuckle. "You look great, by the way." I notice how complementary her outfit is and smile at how gorgeous she looks in it.
"Thank you." She replies. "I just have to do my makeup and we can go."
"You don't have to wear makeup, Nic, you know that right?" I say. "You look beautiful without it and-"
"Harry, I'm only putting on eyeliner, mascara, and lipstick. I don't have any pimples, luckily, or I'd be putting on some foundation and concealer." She replies. "It's not much and I just like the way my eyes pop out." She gets on her tiptoes and kisses my cheek. "Sit down and make yourself comfortable. I'll be out shortly."
"Alright, love." I nod then sit down as she walks off.
She seems alright now so maybe she'll be okay at dinner. Maybe she isn't just putting on a show to not worry me. She doesn't have anything to worry about, really. I know that Mum and Gem is going to adore her and maybe once Nicole is there then she'll be more comfortable. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
"Harry, will you come here for a minute?" I hear Nicole question me. I get up and find her in her bedroom sitting in front of a large mirror.
"Yeah?" I ask as I walk over to her.
"Which lipstick color?" She asks when she turns to me, holding up two lipsticks to me, one red and the other pink.
"Hmm, red." I reply. "Red is a great color on you."
"Thank you." She responds before turning back around to the mirror and opening the lipstick, beginning to put it on.
I watch as her lips turn from a natural pink color to a painted red, smiling to myself all the while. When she finishes, the closes the lipstick up then, grabs her purse from the floor and puts it in there. She looks back to me, through the mirror, when she's zipped up her purse and sends me a questioning glance.
"What're you staring at?" She inquires.
"I'm admiring you, not staring." I remark. "You're just stunning."
"Have you been drinking again?" She asks as her face turns dark red, almost matching the color of her lips.
"Nope." I shake my head. "I know true beauty when I see it."
"You're so sweet." She says, getting up from her seat and walking to me. "But, if we don't go now then we might not make it to dinner."
"We better get going then." I chuckle then grasp her hand, intertwining our fingers, before we walk out of her apartment.
-
"Harry, I'm really nervous and scared." Nicole tells me before I knock on the door to my Mum's house.
"Hey, it's gonna be okay." I reply. "They're going to love you, I just know it." She holds tighter on my hand as I knock on the door. Gemma answers the door, smiling to the both of us.
"Come on in, you two." She tells us as she heads back to the kitchen. Nicole and I step in, me closing the door before we both take a seat on the couch together.
"Are you okay?" I ask Nic, who seems extremely tense.
"I think I will be." She replies, taking in a deep breath.
"You will be." I say, wrapping an arm around her and kissing her temple just before Mum comes in.
"Hi, loves. I hope you're hungry because I've cooked a big, delicious meal for us all." She says as she sits down in a chair near us. "How was the ride here?"
"It was good." I reply. "What've you been cooking? It smells amazing."
"You'll just have to wait and see when you eat." She chuckles. "Nicole, you look great."
"Oh, um, thank you." Nicole replies, seeming caught off guard as she tenses up a bit.
"Are you nervous, sweetheart?" Mum asks Nicole.
"Just a little bit." Nicole responds. "I'm sorry. I just don't want to make a fool of myself."
"No, it's fine, I understand. Meeting parents can be intimidating, yeah?"
"Definitely." Nicole nods.
"Just be yourself, dear. We're very friendly people." Mum replies. "So, where do you work?"
"I co-own a store with my grandmother, actually." Nic replies. "It's pretty near where Harry lives."
"Oh, that's awesome." Mum says. "You're more independent than Kelly was."
"Mum." I shake my head.
"What? Just comparing." She tells me then gets up from her seat. "Come on to the dining room, dinner should be about ready."
-
We had a lovely dinner together. Nicole seemed to relax more as the night went along and we all talked pleasantly amongst each other. After dinner, we went back into the living room and talked for quite a while.
One thing I noticed though was that Mum and Gemma continuously compared Nicole to Kelly. But I guess it's just because we're all used to Kelly being around, not Nicole. And I couldn't tell if Nic was taking offense or not because all she did was smile politely.
"Thank you for the lovely dinner." Nicole says to my Mum as we start to say our goodbyes.
"Oh, not a problem. It was so great having you two over." Mum replies. "Thank you both for coming." She gives me a hug then Nicole one. We say our goodbyes to both Mum and Gemma before leaving the house and hopping into the car.
"Did you have fun, Nicole?" I ask as we start on our way back home.
"Uh, yeah, definitely." Nicole replies but seems a bit distant.
"Something wrong?" I intertwine our fingers as I wait on her answer.
"Oh, no, uh, nothing. Just tired is all." She says. I begin to question her about it but decide against it, thinking that she probably is tired since she got up early this morning.
"Well, you'll be home soon, love."
