Nicole meets me at my house so we can go to her family's for Thanksgiving dinner. I've been a bit nervous about this for the past few days but now my nerves are really getting to me. Hopefully, though, everything goes smoothly.
"Harry, are you okay?" I hear Nicole ask from beside me, us getting off of the highway into a small town.
"Just a bit nervous." I reply. "I want to impress your family."
"Oh, you will." She assures me. "I've brought a boy to a family meal one other time. Once. I was seventeen years old. Regretted it so much. You're a hundred times better than him, in my opinion. And they know how I am when it comes to boys so they'll probably like you just because I do."
"How are you with other boys?" I inquire, furrowing my eyebrows as I look at her expectantly.
"Before I made the awful decision to have sex with Natalia's father, I was so weird when it came to touching." She begins, whispering since Natalia is wide awake in the back seat. "I could barely stand for a guy to hold my hand, let alone kiss and hug me. After Nat's father, I dated a guy and I was doing better with the whole touching situation. With you, I'm doing a whole lot better."
I try to hold back a slight smirk. "How come it's so different with me?" I ask.
"I can't really put my finger on it." She replies. "At the end of the day, I'm wanting to see you, hold your hand, and give you tons of kisses. I don't know, it's really weird for me to want all of this but, with you, I do."
"You're just so cute." I chuckle then lean over and kiss her cheek. She smiles, a dimple in each of her cheeks, as she continues to drive.
It's not long before she pulls into a driveway that's already packed with cars. When she shuts the car off, I can hear a large buzz of people from inside of the house.
"Big family?" I inquire as she begins to get out.
"Very big." She nods. "Can you get Nat out and I'll get her things?"
"Of course." I say before climbing out of the vehicle and getting the toddler out of her seat. Once Nicole has Nat's diaper bag along with a pan covered over with tinfoil, I follow her to the house. We make our way around the children who are playing and talking on the porch and walk inside, where the adults are all chatting.
"Hey, Cole." A woman comes over and hugs Nicole then takes the pan Nicole was carrying to a large table near the kitchen. Nicole then takes Natalia from me and sits her down on the floor, bending down to her height.
"Natalia, you wanna go say hi to everyone?" Nicole gestures to everyone around the room. "I think your great-grandmama would enjoy it if you came and visited her." Nicole points an elderly woman, who's sitting in a rocking chair, out to the baby.
"Gran'mama!" Natalia cheers before running over to the woman and getting up in her lap.
"Okay, Nicole, I think it's time you introduced your man over there." A woman tells Nic.
"This is Harry." Nicole says, taking my hand and intertwining our fingers. "Harry, this is all of my family." She lists each member that's present, beginning with her uncle and ending on her mother, until I know everyone's names.
"It's lovely to meet you all." I tell them, smiling politely. Her aunt gets up and comes over to me so I outstretch my hand for a handshake but she just laughs and shakes her head.
"We hug in this family." She says before engulfing me in a large, warm hug. I stifle a laugh and hug her back, of course, until we release at the same time.
"You won't have any trouble fitting in here." Nicole notes as her aunt walks away.

After spending most of our evening with Nicole's family, Nic decides it's getting pretty late so we leave that house at around nine at night.
It took us a good hour or so to get here, I think, so it's probably going to be quite the ride back. Luckily, Natalia is already asleep so Nicole doesn't really have to worry about her much.
"Did you enjoy yourself?" She asks me, turning on the main highway to go back home.
"Of course, I did." I nod. "Your family is lovely."
"Thanks." She replies. "Sometimes, they're a pain in the ass, though." I chuckle slightly, shaking my head.
"Are you tired, love? I can drive if you are."
"I'm not tired but thank you for the offer." She replies. "I usually don't get sleepy till around elevenish."
"How do you do that? Doesn't Nat get up early?" I question.
"Yeah but I run better on less sleep." She informs me then shrugs her shoulder. "Not sure why."
"I don't fall asleep until around midnight but I can sleep in."
"Lucky you." She says, sarcasm clear in her voice, sending me a playful grin before turning her attention back to the road and continuing with her drive.

When we finally arrive back at my house, it's about ten-thirty. Nicole insists on getting out, telling me that she absolutely has to use my bathroom. I give her the keys so she can get in the house before carefully getting Natalia out and carrying her in with us.
Nicole meets me in the living room as I'm laying Natalia on one cushion of the sofa and covering the child up with a blanket I had nearby.
"C'mere, love." I say, grabbing her hand and pulling her to sit on the couch with me. "Let's watch TV and cuddle."
"Harry, it's late. I need to-"
"Just one show." I bargain with her. "After that, I'll say goodnight."
"Okay." She nods. "One show." I mentally celebrate the small victory and flip on the TV to a random channel, wrapping my arms around Nicole and bringing her close.
When she rests her head on my shoulder, I find myself resting my head on hers and fighting to keep my eyes open until I drift to sleep.
