A few weeks have went by and I still haven't had time to tell my mum about mine and Adeline's plan. She going to freak when she finds out, but like she said I'm of age, I can do what I want. Mum comes back from the grocery store down the road, and I help her out with it, you know maybe I could get in a few words.
"Hey mum." I smile to her.
"Hi Luke." She replies handing me brown paper bags. She was still kind of upset with me after she found out about what I did, but she's moving past it.
"So um I was wondering-"
"Ahh crap!" She exclaims cutting me off. "I forgot to pick up noodles. Here," She holds out the keys for me to take. "Go to the market and I'll stay here and work on what I can before you get back."
"But.. I guess." I sigh and take the keys from her. I didn't want to go because I had to meet Addy in our spot in less than thirty minutes. There's no way I'll be on time.
Reluctantly, I climb into the car and pull out of the driveway. Ever since I got my license last month, she's been making me go everywhere, just up until now, I was about to make it back on time. As I'm driving, I take out my phone and attempt to call her. No answer. "Shit." I swear under my voice.
Maybe she was out with her family tonight and wasn't able to make it either. Then again if that was the case, then she would've called or tried to text. Maybe she didn't care anymore.
I finally get to the market about 15 minutes later and from the time on my watch, I only have five minutes to get to where I need to be most. While I'm walking through the aisle, I hear giggling. Not just any giggling. I'd know that giggling from anywhere. I peak around the corner and I find Adeline and Calum laughing about the gummy worms in his hands. He put them on his nose and was trying to balance while walking.
"Glad to know your not the only one that was going to be late today." I snarl, approaching them. I couldn't hide the hurt look on my face.
"Oh hey Luke. Trust me I was going to be there, it's just Calum made me go with him to the store because he doesn't know how to shop for groceries." Adeline explains. Even though, I knew where she was coming from it still hurt.
"Did you even realize I tried to call you?" I ask, ignoring her explanation.
"I-no. It's in the car. Why are you mad?"
"Probably because my girlfriend is ditching me for my best friend... yeah I think that's it."
"There's no need to be rude, mate. I was going have her back in time, I promise." Calum steps in trying to calm me down. At this point nothing was going to calm me down, I was way beyond the point of feeling hurt.
"Really? Because if I was reading my watch right, you had 5 minutes to get where you needed to be. The field is almost 20 minutes away from here, it looked like you were just laughing about Calum and his fucking gummy worms." I spat, shaking my head I walk away.
"Luke, stop. Please wait." Addy calls from behind me. "Come on I'll take Cal home and we'll drive there together."
I bite my tongue so hard I swear it will bleed. "Cal?" I question her nickname for him. That wasn't okay. I scoff and walk away, leaving her behind me screaming my name. The worst part is; I didn't get any noodles.
~Xx~
"Luke honey where are the noodles." Mum asks me once I get through the door.
"I didn't know which kind to get." I lie, pretty much mumbling.
"Are you okay? You seemed so happy when you left a little while ago. Did something happen at the store?"
"No, mum. I just didn't know what the hell I was getting!" I snap and I instantly feel awful. She was only trying to help and this wasn't even her problem.
"Luke Robert Hemmings! That is no way to talk to your mother! Go to your room now!"
I honestly laugh at this. "Go to my room? What am I 5? I'm 21 years old, mum, you can't tell me what to do anymore."
Mum looked almost as shocked as I felt. Did I really just say that? Who am I anymore? I guess shocked feelings can lead to shocked reactions. That being said, mum raises her hand as far back as she can get, and strikes me with it. What was I to do? She was my mother I stood there dumbstruck as she lowers her voice and says, "As long as you live under my roof, you follow what I say."
"Then I'm gone." I retort, but not as confident as I hoped for. I couldn't believe myself right now. Where was I to go? I couldn't live on my own yet, I was just saving up money to take Adeline to America, which I have no clue if that's even on our agenda anymore.
I had one thought in my head and I had no idea what the outcome would be to this. "Hello?" My brother, Jack answers.
"Hey man. I gotta ask you something?"
