XVII - The Other Half

"So, he haven't tried to escape or run away yet?" Jamie asked Josh as they carefully watched Zander, Zach's alter.

"I'm getting a bit suspicious. I can't help but feel that he's planning something." Josh replied.

Josh brought back Zander to his apartment and called Jamie immediately. Just a week ago, Josh and Zach were in England for Zach's therapy. They finally got a breakthrough and almost got rid of that violent alter, then when Zach was seemingly getting free of his alter, he had a breakdown, and Zander appeared. Zach haven't showed up ever since.

When Zach told Josh everything about his Dissociative Identity Disorder (D.I.D.), he couldn't believe it at first. And when Zach brought him to his deceased twin brother's grave, Josh remembered almost everything, except for his memories of the accident that caused his memory loss.

Zeke, Zach's twin, died just after high school graduation. He had a weak heart, and it finally failed one night. It happened so suddenly that they were all caught unaware. For Zach, Zeke was everything, his world revolves around his innocent and shy twin brother, that's why when Zeke passed away Zach couldn't accept it.

Zach became angry. It was anger so deep that he couldn't control it. Zeke had always told him to be kind and nice, so Zach couldn't act out on that anger at all. That's when his first alter was born, that violent alter.

When the violent alter first appeared, Zach almost died because of a fight. He was beaten so badly that he was hospitalized, and when he woke up, the violent alter was gone, and Zach had adopted Zeke's personality.

The confident and outgoing Zach turned innocent and shy, just like his deceased twin. That's the Zach that Josh first met.

Acting like his twin brother, even putting a fake scar on his chest like Zeke used to have, made Zach feel that Zeke was still with him.

Josh was very supportive of Zach, and convince Zach to undergo therapy. Zach was more than willing to, because Josh promised that he would stay by his side.

They came up with the plan to go to England for the therapy. Away from their friends, because Zach didn't want anyone else to find out about his condition. Also, doing it far away from Josh's mother seemed to be the best choice.

If his mother finds out about Zach's condition, Josh was sure that she would do everything to break them up even more. So they decided to make it look like they got into a fight. Zach went to England first with Jamie, not saying a proper goodbye to his friends to make it more convincing, then Josh followed after, saying that he would go for a trip.

Acting like he didn't care about Zach anymore was really difficult for Josh, but he had to do it to protect Zach. He had to do it to avoid any suspicion.

The six months Josh spent with Zach alone in England was the best time of his life. They lived together just like newlyweds. Every night, they would fall asleep in each other's arm, and in the morning they would wake up looking at each other with a smile.

When Zach wasn't in therapy, they would go around taking pictures. Although, Zach wasn't able to hold a camera yet.

That happy moment was broken by Zander, Zach's newest alter. That man is so far from both the innocent and shy Zach, and the outgoing and confident Zach. Zander is calculating, cunning, and very cold. He doesn't care about anyone or anything at all.

"I heard everything from Dr. Olivers." Jamie said. "She said that Dr. Martins almost cured Zach, but then another alter appeared. They think that Zach himself isn't ready to let go of his alters." Jamie said.
