When I reached the waterfall, with Jason following behind me, I scanned the entire place for any other clue, my eyes followed the stream of the waterfall. The water formed a little river that flowed as far as the eye could see. It was a gorgeous waterfall in the daylight, the water was crystal clear and it was as blue as the sky. There were little rocks and stones lining the bottom of the river and I thanked my lucky stars that I had managed to jump into the deeper part of the water the night before.
Without a single word, I started walking in the same direction as the stream. I could hear that Jason was walking behind me so I didn't stop. I was surprised that I could walk faster than he could, given that I had some flesh missing in my upper leg and that I had shorter legs.
"Luna, I'm sorry about what I said earlier, I know this isn't entirely your fault," he said and sounded unsure of what to say next.
"It's alright, I get it," I said blankly
"I'm really sorry for leaving you behind I was just..." he trailed off and his eyes landed on my bandaged leg "what happened to your leg? Maybe I should check it out for you, you know I had first aid lessons last year," he said with worry in his eyes.
"Oh, it's nothing, I'm fine Jason, don't worry about it," I shrugged while turning around to face him with a small smile on my face "I mean, I am walking faster than you aren't I?" I joked.
"Ha, you wish I'm just walking behind you so I can protect you from the monsters that might sneak up on you," he said and I just raised my eyebrow at him in response. After a couple of minutes of banter, I decided that we needed to hit the road again.
"Hey, I don't mean to be a buzz kill but we should get going," I said and started walking again.
We talked while we followed the stream, after a while we found a banana tree and we both ate our fair share of bananas, Jason even took off some bananas and shoved them into my backpack.
"Just remember if you help to pack the load then you help to carry the load okay?" I said playfully. He just smiled and kept walking. We also found a plastic bottle beside the river it was crinkled and squished but we took it anyway. We filled it to the brim with water and kept searching for, well I wasn't entirely sure what we were looking for, the rest of our friends I guess.
After walking for what felt like hours, we finally found a little tunnel-like tube at the bottom of the river, there was a sign next to it which read: "This is what you have been looking for" at first I thought it was just a joke and that we should keep going, but past the tunnel there was just another waterfall so once I realized there was no other way out of there, I decided to take a chance on the tube. I was reluctant to go down another slide-type-thing since the first one brought us to this place, but neither I nor Jason had any better ideas.
"Well I guess we'll have to crawl through there," I told Jason and crouched down, he did the same, the tube was very dark and I couldn't see anything further than where I was. There was a stream of water running down the tube and I told myself to pretend that it was a water slide at a fun park. I shut my eyes and started crawling into the tube, the bottom was wet and slimy and it sent shivers down my spine.
I could hear Jason crawling behind me and it made me feel safe then suddenly a huge wave of water- and Jason - hit me from behind. I could feel my body crashing against the tube every once in a while and it was certainly painful but in some twisted way it was sort of fun, well maybe fun isn't the right word, it was more like, a rush. My face was forced under water from time to time, leaving me breathless and fearing for my life. Finally, I saw a light at the end of the tunnel and Jason and I both fell out of the tube and into another universe.
