Angela woke me up the next morning and we started talking about our plans for the day. There were two things on our to-do list 1. Don't die and 2. Find the others. After exchanging several ideas as to what was happening and how it was even possible to travel through a haunted mansion into another dimension we started moving toward the last place that Angela saw Jeremy. She said that he was right ahead of her when a swarm of beetles attacked them and they lost each other.
We were walking through the grass when we saw a dirt road up ahead. We decided that we would follow the road since it might lead to civilization and that it was probably the safest way to find the others. We were walking along the dirt road and talking about this bizarre situation that we found ourselves in and what we have been doing for the time we were stuck here. I told Angela about everything that I've been through like the small room, the giant wolf pack.
Angela told me that she woke up in a beetle nest on the first day, she had freaked out so much that she started crying if you knew Angela for as long as I've known her you would realize that it must have been really terrible for her to cry. I've only seen her cry twice and both times involved the death of an animal, which is really something anyone would cry about. Unless you're a psycho or you hate animals, which in my opinion is the same thing. She then told me that she dug her way out of the nest and ran as far as she could as fast as she could, she fell somewhere and cut her arm on a sharp little stone and then she found Jeremy. When they got attacked by the swarm of beetles she climbed up the tree and fell asleep out of pure exhaustion.
We were so lost in conversation that we almost didn't notice the massive spider that crawled over the road towards us. It was about the size of my head and it ran right at me. I let out a yelp and jumped, then the spider crawled through my legs and went to stand in my shadow. This was a Red Roman, I could see it by its colour and also because it was obviously chasing my shadow. We continued on down the road with our new spider friend following in our shadows. Further down the road, there were more spiders, some were also Red Romans, but there were also some tarantulas, camel spiders and there was even a baboon spider. Angela told me the names of all the spiders we passed, her best friend bred with spiders, so she knew a lot about them. I had to admit it was pretty scary to have spiders around every corner, but at least they hadn't harmed us, at that time.
I knew Jeremy was probably freaking out with all these spiders around, I mean I was freaked out and I didn't even have a fear of spiders. I was used to having spiders around, because of Angela's father and because our house was filled to the brim with spiders in the rainy season.
We were still walking when we heard a scream coming from the bushes next to the dirt road and I walked through the bushes to where the sound was coming from and Angela followed me. We started running towards the noise when someone yelled, "Help! Help me please!" Then it was followed by another scream. We followed the noise until we came across the biggest spider web I had ever seen before and poor Jeremy was stuck in it. His face was red and he was hanging upside down in the web.
Shortly after my eyes landed on him I searched around to see where the spider was that had spun the web when out from the woods came an enormous cluster of spiders that charged towards the web. They came in all shapes and sizes but most of them were slightly larger than normal.
"Angela, Luna, thank goodness you're here! Please, get me out of here!" Jeremy yelled with rushed words. He was moving around so much that the spiderweb was shaking.
"What do we do?" I asked Angela who just looked back at me and lifted her shoulders. I knew we had to get Jeremy loose before he became the lunch of a gazillion spiders. My eyes scanned the area around me for anything I could use to save Jeremy when a sharp stone on the other side of the web caught my eye. It was a very peculiar rock because it was very long and it was pointy on one end, almost like a really thick, heavy and blunt knife. I gave Angela a nudge and pointed towards the stone, she looked to the cluster of spiders that were getting closer by the minute and then winked at me.
We both sprinted towards the stone, Angela was the first one to reach it and as soon as she got a hold of it she made a run for it towards the web where Jeremy was stuck. I followed closely behind her and helped her to hold Jeremy in place while she jabbed the stone into the web, tearing it with every smooth swipe of the stone. I lifted Jeremy's head so he landed on his back when he fell out of the web and we proceeded to cut the webs that were wound around him. It was a difficult job because the webs were very sticky and gross. Some of the faster spiders had reached us already and I had to step on them while Angela cut Jeremy loose from the last few webs. I only stepped on a few of them, luckily the soles of my sneakers were protecting me from their bites. Before long there were too many to step on but luckily Jeremy was on his feet by that time.
He bolted away from the web and ran away from the spiders because he was terrified of spiders. I ran after him and so did Angela, but some of the sticky webs were stuck on my shoes which slowed me down quite a bit. It was like trying to run when you had just stepped in fresh gooey gum. I looked over my shoulder to see where the spiders were, they were chasing after us. I had never seen so many spiders in one place. I bolted through the leaves and bushes like a bat out of hell. Some of the high grass cut me as I rushed by and I just felt a sting here and there when it did. I was running so fast that I wasn't exactly paying attention to where I put my feet and the next thing I knew I had tripped over something and I was lying in the grass on the ground. Behind me, I heard an 'oomph' type of sound. My wounded leg landed on something hard and I winced when a ripple of pain went through my body. I let out a small squeal and then I tried to sit up so I could look at my leg. Luckily it didn't reopen the flesh, but it was very painful.
"Watch where you're going, Luna!" Jeremy screamed. He had fallen just before I did and I tripped over his leg.
"I'm sorry I didn't see you," I apologized.
"Yeah, I know, that's why I said watch where you're going," he said angrily.
It seems that the guys I'm friends with have really bad tempers when their lives were in danger.
"Okay Jeremy, I'm sorry, but aren't you glad we found- Yowch!" I was interrupted when Angela tripped over my foot that was stretched out. She almost fell but ended up just landing in an almost-split, warrior-two type of yoga position with her arms flailing around her body. She still had the stone in her hands and dropped it while trying to keep her balance and it landed on the ground and bounced a couple of times. I started laughing at the humour in the situation and so did Angela, but Jeremy just had to be a buzz kill, "You idiots seriously need to look where you are going."
"Did you just say I'm an idiot? Who do you think you are Jeremy! We came here to help you and this is how you thank us?" Angela yelled and attempted to jump onto Jeremy but he kicked her sideways to get her out of the way and Angela flew through the air and landed with a loud thump on her stomach, then she rolled over in the grass. She quickly got up in an attempt to retaliate but I stopped her.
"Okay listen, we have bigger problems right now, remember the giant group of spiders?" I said, "and Angela, you know Spiders feel vibrations on the ground, so fighting is a really bad idea right now."
Shortly after I calmed them down a spider appeared between the grass and he was followed by about six other spiders. Angela and Jeremy immediately got up and started running, I shot up to my feet and sharp pain in my leg followed. I stumbled after I winced in pain, but I had to push through it. I started half running half limping away as fast as I could, which wasn't fast enough. When I looked back I could see that the spiders were gaining on me.
My heart was racing and my breath hitched when I saw how close they were. I panicked and the gallons of adrenaline that were pumping through my veins were like the nitrous I needed to speed up. I ran with lightning speed that was fueled by fear. After a while, I couldn't see any more spiders and I slowed down. I believe I must've outrun them or it was a territorial thing. I was in their territory and they wanted me out, as soon as I was out they stopped chasing me.
I stopped running and looked out ahead of me as far as I could see trying to find Angela and Jeremy, but they were nowhere to be found. This was awful, I literally just found Jeremy and then I lost both him and Angela. I also found it hard to believe that they didn't turn around to check if I was behind them. I started walking again, cursing under my breath at the thought that I was alone, again!
