My heavy eyelids pulled open as I was awoken by a flapping noise. Opening my eyes made no difference because the room around me was black as charcoal and the air was icy. I felt tiny stings running through my arms and realized that I had goosebumps.

The only sound in the room was the plonking sound of water dripping onto the damp floor and the flapping of wings. I slowly sat up, groaning slightly in pain as my body was sore from landing on the cold and hard floor. I rubbed my bare, goose bump covered arms to bring warmth to them.

Everything seemed to be spinning slightly, but I believe it was my mind playing tricks on me. I stayed seated on the floor until the spinning feeling subsided. Then I made my way to my feet, almost falling over a couple of times while trying to steady myself. I started moving forward carefully, feeling around in front of me but there was nothing. The further I moved the more panicked I became. My heart went from a light trot to a gallop in a matter of minutes. I had no idea where I was or what was in here with me. More importantly, I had no idea if I was going out of- or deeper into the darkness I was in.

As my mind ran through the list of scary monsters, animals and bugs that could possibly be right next to me, my hand hit something. I only touched it for a fraction of a second before I ripped my hand back, screaming. I felt hair and heat, something nobody wants to feel when they're in a cold, dark room with no way out. The thing started screeching in such a high pitch that it would make Mariah Carey jealous. I stumbled back and turned in the other direction to see if I would be able to find an exit on the other side.

While I was walking, something hot and hairy landed on my shoulder and I felt a sharp pinch close to where it had landed. "Ow!" I howled and quickly reached for my shoulder to remove the thing on it. I felt a similar stinging sensation in my hand and I immediately knew that it had bitten me. The strange thing was that it didn't detach after biting me. It was like it was sucking on me. I freaked out and yanked my hand away sending the creature flying. I started running and I kept running for several minutes before the floor beneath me disappeared suddenly and a bunch of squeaking, flying creatures zoomed past me as they scattered from below me. My arms and legs were being scraped to shreds as I fell through something that felt like a dark and narrow downward corridor or even a grave that's already been dug out. I pushed my sinister thoughts aside and put my arms out in front of me to break my fall. My father always said that breaking an arm is better than breaking your face.

I landed in a puddle of water on my stomach with a loud thunk, splashing little droplets of frigid water in all directions. My gut clenched as the breath was knocked out of me and for a while I struggled to breathe because it was just too painful. Luckily the fall wasn't far or else I may have broken a rib instead of getting winded. It was almost laughable how I lay there in the dark, wheezing and making strained noises. But on the inside I felt like I was being suffocated and that my lungs had forgotten how to inhale and exhale at a normal pace. After giving myself enough time to recover, I stood up slowly and started looking around. This time I could see a bit more.

There was water dripping from the roof and dark, creepy bats hung in clusters on the walls screeching away. After spotting the bats I immediately realized that the thing I came into contact with earlier had to be one of those nasty little blood-suckers. I was in a damp room, water covered the floor completely and there was a bit of light coming from a hole in the ceiling and a crack in the wall. There were vines growing all over the room and some rocks and leaves were scattered around on the floor. There was moss on the walls and the ground beneath me felt slippery as if algae had grown all over it.

There were scratch marks on the wall as if someone had been there before me, trying to claw their way out. Many possibilities sprung to mind of who it could be, the mansion we were in earlier was known as the most hazardous abandoned site in Harem and many children, teenagers and adults have gone missing after entering the mansion. I was just going to be another file added to the pile of missing people who were last seen at the Seyfred mansion. My thoughts wandered to my father, he would be worried sick by now. He didn't even want me and Angela to go to that party and we had to convince him that we would be safe. I wondered if Angela was still on the staircase where I let her last time. I had to force myself out of my investigative thoughts and turn my attention to getting out.

There was a soaking wet, broken down chair in the corner, a backpack and two flashlights were on the floor next to it, I checked them and unfortunately their batteries were dead. I looked inside the backpack but it only had a torn scarf inside. I put the two flashlights inside the backpack and zipped the backpack up so that it was now closed. I then put the backpack on my back and started searching for a way out of this place.

I walked around the room trying to find a way out, there was none. I checked again, this time I went to the crack in the wall first, I tried pushing it and sure enough, it moved. I pushed again, putting some extra strength into the push and it moved a bit more. Eventually, I realised that it was a door that was covered in vines and therefore it was stuck. I used all my might and practically fell onto the door, pushing as hard as I could. Finally, I got it open far enough to squeeze through.

Behind the door was a bunch of vines that grew together, I pulled the vines away, tearing them away from each other. After a lot of struggling, I finally crawled through the little space I had created between the vines. When I came out on the other side I was relieved to be out but I still had no idea where I was or where I was going.
