Darkness filled the world around us as we entered into the pitch black, unlit foyer of the Seyfried Mansion. Because of the darkness, my eyes were playing tricks on me, making me think that I was seeing shadowy figures around every corner. The wind made an eerie noise that sounded like the voices of the dead. I felt Jeremy stiffen next to me and I heard him swallow loudly.

"Remind me what we're doing here," he whispered with a shaky voice. I felt tingles run down my spine as his hot breath hit the back of my neck.

"We are looking for Zac, how could you forget that numbskull?" Angela retorted lowly.

I rolled my eyes at her, even though she was my half-sister and my best friend I was not afraid to admit that her feisty nature was going to get her into a lot of trouble one day. I reached down and held Jeremy's hand to comfort him but on the inside, I was just as scared as he was. I wasn't scared because of the reputation this place had for being haunted, I was more scared of the homeless people and thieves that might live in this abandoned place. To make matters worse, it was so dark that I couldn't even see Adam that was thumping about a few feet ahead of me. All of us were pretty upset with Adam for bringing Zac along to our night out. Zac was the sole reason why we were parading around in a haunted mansion at this ungodly hour. He had suggested that we go inside to look around, when we refused he stole the car keys and ran inside. We had no choice but to follow him or we would have to walk several miles and through the most dangerous city in Harem.

I looked around the room we were in, even though I could not make out much, the things I could see only made me more afraid. It was a massive foyer filled with tall shadowed pillars that looked like long tendrils trying to wrap itself around us. There was a giant staircase in the centre with some chunks broken out of it from years of neglect. From the roof hung the most beautiful, grand chandelier that swung from side to side. It was illuminated by a tiny sliver of moonlight that shone through the darkness, making a nightmarish silhouette hang over the staircase below. The chandelier creaked and squeaked as it moved forward and backwards, over and over again. There was a gentle, creepy breeze that blew through a big, broken window high above the stairs.

We made it inside just in time to see Zac at the top of the staircase. He held the keys in the air and said: "Come and get it!" Then he disappeared into a jet-black corridor that I assumed led to the bedrooms. Adam was the first one to run after him and soon after I started making my way up the stairs and the others followed.

When we were about halfway, a little crystal on the chandelier fell off and tumbled to the ground. Once it hit the ground it shattered into a billion little pieces and I spun around in fright. Jeremy let out a squeal and jumped around. When we saw what had caused the distress some of us started laughing and others let out sighs of relief. Jeremy was too frightened to even do anything. Adam came down a few steps and put his hand on Jeremy's shoulder. "Don't worry Jeremy, we'll be out of here soon,"

"Oh, will we? If it wasn't for your stupid new friend we would have been on our way home right now!" Jeremy whisper-shouted at Adam.

"Well, it's not my fault that you had to tinkle just as we were driving past this scary place!" Adam whisper-shouted back. If we weren't in a dark abandoned mansion at 3 AM I probably would have thought this situation was quite comical especially since the tallest, strongest and most serious guy I know just used the word "tinkle". The only reason why I didn't laugh was that I was tired, hungry, scared and very very angry.

"Can you two please stop bickering so we can get Zac and get out of here? Or do I have to drag you up the stairs by your ears like naughty little boys?" I said, trying to be sassy like Angela. They both were quiet, staring at me for a second. Then both of them started laughing hysterically. I should have known they wouldn't take me seriously, they never do.
