Later that night, Roxy and the other boys sat together in Collins' room just to get to know each other. Roxy had insisted it. Now that she was one of them, she needed to know them to the core. Not that she doubted them or something. She was just curious and being curious was okay.
Collins' room was pretty hardcore. It explained how dutiful and responsible he was. After Maxwell and Donovan, he was in charge. To keep the boys in order in Maxwell and Donovan's absence, it was all over him. His room had coarse grey walls and a smooth floor (it explained how Collins had a soft side too). The room was well lit with a white bulb. They all sat on his bed round in a circle. The night table held a lamp and a box, Roxy was curious about but she neatly held it inside, her curiosity.
"So, Roxette," Collins broke the silence, "You really don't remember how you ended up here?"
She shook her head, "I'm clueless. Whenever I try to remember, this weird ache hits my head. I feel like passing out. So I better not try to."
"I guess, you have a memory loss or something," Quentin suggested.
"But it doesn't matter now, does it?" Earl said, "This is your new life. You're starting anew."
Roxy smiled but felt a little uneasy. Did she belong here? She pushed those thoughts aside.
"So, let's get to know each other better," Roxy said, "You first, Collins."
Collins might have hesitated but it was hard to tell, "Well, when I was like five or so, my mama left me. Said she'd come back but disappeared into the darkness. As far as I can remember, I was standing near a dark alley. Since then, I had spent nearly ten years of my life in different foster homes. Every time I ran away considering their treatments toward us, foster children. When I was fifteen, I bumped into a guy who kept me for some years. Thought I had found a new home but then he died. Had a little bit to live with. Later I found Maxwell, who gave me a family. That's it."
Roxy pursed her lips and nodded, "This really is home. Quentin, you're up."
He grinned, "Mine is a fun one, doe. After running away from my last foster home ever, I found Maxwell's group. At first, they refused to take me in 'cause of my scrawny figure that I had at that time. Then I would eat, workout and repeat, till I had there babies," He patted his bare muscular arms, "This way I got in. Duh!"
Roxy laughed, so did the others, "And your parents?"
"Ghosts, don't have an atom of clue."
Collins playfully patted his back and rubbed his hair.
"Fun story, my inspiration," Roxy said trying to control her laughter, "Gonna eat and workout till my packs get mature."
"You'd still look sexy," He commented. A woo sound rose up and everyone tackles him playfully as if shipping them. Roxy might have blushed, she couldn't tell.
"Okay, Benny, you're up?" She said.
"Same cliché stories, Rox," He smirked, "Running, hiding, finding a shelter, a family."
"What were you running from, Benny?" Roxy looked closely at him, as if trying to read his expressions.
"Family," He sighed, "You know those families that have uncaring parents and stuffs? I used to cut and they didn't notice or even care to do so." He showed her his wrists that were all scars. Roxy felt bad for that guy. He looked so tough but here he was all alone fighting his demons
"Not cliché at all. Earl?" She smiled at him.
"Lived with my brother who used to torture me and ended up here. As simple as that," He smiled back at her.
"And what about the twins?" Roxy grinned. She didn't know why but she found the twins cute.
"We twins?" Earnest and Kian asked, "Yeah, born together, fought together, ran together and ended up here together. All together."
"Nice," Roxy clapped a girly clap that she immediately regretted, "So you guys are all lucky to be here now, I hope?"
"Yeah, Maxwell's a man, trust me," Benny insisted, "No matter how tough he looks, he's a nice guy. Caring and stuff, you know?"
Roxy just smiled at them and talked randomly.
