Chapter 20

James' POV*
The plane seats were ripped and scratched. There were still drinks from the flight before us in the seats. Aleks shuffled in his seat, trying to turn on the mini TV in front of him. He pressed a big button and the screen flashed white, then blue.
"There's no point anyways..." He said quietly.

He slouched down in his seat and took a big sigh. I thought for a moment, trying to think of something to talk about. Then, it hit me.

"Hey Aleks?" I said, making him look at me with his shining brown eyes. I stared at him for a moment, looking into his eyes, trying to read his thoughts. I swear I thought I saw some stars in his eyes, making them sparkle and shimmer even more.

I slightly smiled at the thought. Stars in his eyes. I snapped back to reality when someone coughed on the plane nearby.

"So, what was it you were going to tell me earlier? You've been trying to tell me ever since yesterday," I asked. His face turned a light crimson and looked past me out the window.
"Umm...well it's hard to explain. I'm not sure how to say it or tell you," he whispered.

I thought for a second.
"W-well what is it about?" I asked, thinking of the worst things possible, but I couldn't let me thoughts get ahead of me. He took in a deep breath.
"It's about umm...me and y-you," he said even quieter that I almost couldn't hear him.
"Well what about us? Is it about our friendship or something I did wrong? If I did something and I didn't notice I'm-"
"Stop James...you haven't done anything wrong. Just listen to me when I say this to you alright?" He said, and I nodded, understanding him.

Suddenly, the intercom came on, first coming through with a loud and screeching sound making everyone cover their ears. After a few seconds, the sound stopped, and I removed my hands from my ears. Aleks looked over to me quickly.
"I'll tell you when we get land," he promised, and I nodded.

A click echoed through the plane as someone came through the intercom.

"Good morning ladies and gentleman, this is your captain speaking," a voice boomed over the speakers. The man had a weird tome to his voice like he either was tired, or didn't care about anything. "This trip for the government's Purge is headed to Florida," he continued. "We will land in Tampa, Florida , in about three and a half hours time. People will come out into the cabin one we reach flying altitude. There are drinks and snacks available. Everyone please take a seat, we are about to take off."

I took a deep breath. This is all happening to quickly. I didn't even get to tell Aleks that I loved him yet. I'll do it when we get to the airport.

Thinking of Aleks, I looked over towards him, but found him already looking at me. He had a slight smile on his face and a tint of pink on his cheeks. Then, I felt the plane start to speed up. We were already on the runway, and I hadn't even noticed we moved in the first place....and we were going next.

I hate heights, I absolutely despise heights. We started to speed up, and I closed my eyes. Don't think about it, don't think about it.
"James, you alright?" Aleks asked me with a concerned voice. I took in a shaky breath, and nodded my head.
"Y-yeah I'm f-fine," I stuttered. I closed my eyes even tighter as the plane tilted upwards.

Then, I felt something warm wrap around my hand. I opened my eyes and looked down to see Aleks' hand holding mine. Our fingers were intertwined perfectly. I looked up at him. He was looking at me, blushing. He looked down at our hands, then back up at me.

"I know you hate heights, so I figured I could make you more calm," he said, and I nodded. This is why I love him.

The plane tilted up even more and lifted off the ground, making the plane shake. I squeezed Aleks' hand tighter, scared that we might run off the runway. After a few seconds, we were flying straight, headed to Florida.

The flight attendants came through the cabin and offered us free drinks and snacks. Aleks got some pretzels and a Pepsi Max, and I got some Lay's chips and a Coke.

I looked out my window for the first time. The view was amazing. The sun couldn't be seen from behind the clouds, but I could tell it was mid-day. The sky had a purplish-red tint to it. The almost full moon could be seen, rising from the east. I couldn't see the ground because the clouds were so thick. The clouds made it look like we were driving on a road with a heavy fog on it, but you could still see the sky.

I looked back to Aleks, who seemed to be sleeping. He was still holding my hand, but I didn't mind. I laid back and relaxed on the scratchy chair, hoping to God that we would land safely. I closed my eyes, and thought of the only thing that ever came to my mind. Aleksandr.

I was woken up by a violent shake. I sat up quickly, thinking it was really bad turbulence. I looked up to see Aleks standing above me. He slightly smiled, a pink blush coming to his cheeks making my heart flutter.
"Come on James, we're here," he said, sighing afterwards.

I slowly got up, and exited the plane, walking down the long hallway connecting the plane to the airport. We got to the gate door and saw many people sitting in the chairs around the gate. Some were even sitting on the floor.

We walked on, trying to find out where we were supposed to go until we saw a man in a metal suit that looked like it was from Halo. He had a gun that had a glowing blue trim on it.
"Gentleman, where are you coming from?" He asked in an animatronic  voice. Aleks looked at me, and then responded.

"Colorado," he said quietly. The man nodded and motioned us to follow him. He led us down a long dim hallway and took the first door on the right. It looked like an apartment. There was a kitchen, and living room with a couch and huge flatscreen TV. There was an entertainment center with four big speakers on the sides.

"This is where you will be staying for the next few days. You will get free food from the airport and get other extra things like a toothbrush stuff like that," he explained. I nodded and he left the room.
