The Beginning of The End ( NovaHD )

Chapter 4

James' POV*
The guys and I were talking about what we should order for lunch. That's when I heard Aleks call everyone, and he sounded worried.

"Hey guys?" His voice shook.
"The creepy Purge lady is on the TV again!" What he said made me shiver. Everyone stopped talking and rushed into the living room.

The room was silent. I looked around at everyone's faces. All of them were expressionless except one. Aleks. He was looking around too until he caught my eyes. He has pretty, brown eyes. He looked worried. He gave me a reassuring smile that made my stomach flutter. Why do I keep feeling like this? I smiled back. He opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted by the lady on the TV.

"Good evening everyone. This broadcast is live all over the world. Today I will go over some of the rules of the Purge. If you do not wish to follow these rules, you will be executed immediately," she said with a serious voice. I looked over at Aleks to see his face full of shock. Him looking like that made me worry.

He looked like was about to cry, so I went over to him and slung my arm around his shoulder, trying to give him some comfort. He gave me a smile that said, 'I'm ok' but I continued to let my arm hang around his shoulder.

The lady continued to talk.
" The rules that follow are serious. You should not take them as a joke." Why the fuck would we take this as a joke? You just threatened to kill us if we didn't follow them!

" In a few weeks, the Purge will begin. There will be a transport vehicle outside everyone's house to pick you up. This vehicle will pick up everyone in your house. If you do not comply, you will get executed on spot," she said in a calm voice. I wanted to punch her for saying that.

I felt my knuckles get tighter and realized my hand was in a fist. I felt like I needed to break something. Aleks realized I was tense.
"Hey dude, relax. Now is not the time to get angry," he said in a calming voice. He always knows how to calm me down. I knew he was right so I calmed down. I nodded him a thank you and returned my attention to the TV screen.

"Once you get picked up, you will go to the nearest airport and get transported to different locations around the world, but will stay in the same country you are in now. We are expecting everyone to team up. But only teams of 2 people are allowed in each group." My heart sank. I turned around and saw the guys eyes wide in shock.
" Guys we will talk about it after she is done talking. Let's just focus for now," Jordan said. Everyone nodded and returned their gaze to the TV.

" Since this is going on for 6 months, you will be able to contact someone every month, but only for 10 minutes. If we figure out that you are calling someone other than those dates, then we will track you down. Don't worry about your cellphones dying or breaking. Your phones will be charging through our technology system so they will never die. This is important so you can contact someone each month and if we send off a broadcast to you. If your phone breaks, our system will let us know, and we will send a team to give you the same phone with your same data, but just brand new," she explained.

Aleks smiled at that. His phone was all scratched and had cracks on it. He was probably going to break his on purpose. Smart kid. I laughed at my thought and he looked at me still grinning.
"What's so funny?" His look turned serious.
"Just that your probably going to break your phone on purpose, just to get a new one." He smiled again and blush creeped onto his face again.
"Damn straight!" That made me laugh, making my arm come off of his shoulder.

"The government thanks you for your time. Have a great rest of your day. We will broadcast tomorrow at the same time."After she said that, the TV shut off, making everything go quiet again. I looked around at everyone. They all seemed nervous.
"So w-what are we going to do about that 2 person g-group thing?" Aleks stuttered. I could tell he was the most nervous out of us all.
"I'm not sure. But now since we aren't going to all be in a group together, we are going to have to pick who goes with who." Jordan said, sighing at the end of his sentence.

A lot of my thoughts were going through my head at this moment. What if I go with someone and it doesn't work out? What if the person I go with betrays me for some reason? If someone else dies, how would the other person survive? What if- the worst possible thought came to my head.

What if Aleks dies? What if he is paired up with someone and they betray him? What if I'm the one who gets him killed? What will my world be without having Aleks around? I thought to myself, my eyes starting to water. No it's impossible. A world without Aleks is impossible.
