"I'll race you to the bed!", I say and take off towards my room. She's right behind me once what I said registers in her mind and we are both dashing through my kitchen.
We sprint halfway down the hallway to my room and bust the door open. She's quick but I'm quicker; I reach my bed right before her, but before I can hop on, she grabs my shirt and pulls me back, causing me to trip over my own feet and land on my butt. She launches herself onto my bed and then jumps on it in victory, pumping her fists into the air and singing at the top of her lungs (and may I add horribly off key) " SWEEEET, SWEEEET, SWEET VICTORY!" I bust out laughing on my carpeted floor.
When she's done celebrating she falls onto the bed and joins me in laughter. We were laughing so hard that it turned into one of those ugly laughs, and yes I'm talking about the dreaded laugh that only your closest friends hear. The laugh that sounds like the kraken has been released.
Isabel was laughing so hard that she actually rolled off of my bed! She screamed a little and then there was a loud thud as she landed face first into my carpet. The look of shock on her face was priceless! This made me laugh even harder until I looked like a retarded seal, sitting there clapping with absolutely no noise coming out of my mouth except for an occasional wheeze.
After five more minutes of both of us laughing our butts off until we were crying, we finally regained our composure. "That was seriously the funniest thing I have seen in a long time. Even funnier than when my dad jumped out of the pantry and scared the living bejeezus out of my mom last week", I said as I wiped the tears from my eyes.
"That must've been hilarious. Your parents are pretty cool", Isabel told me.
"Thanks, I'm pretty sure they really like you."
"Duh, how can they not? I'm perfect!", she said while over-dramatically flipping her hair.
At that, we both busted out laughing. Once we recovered I asked, "So why did you move here to Florida?"
"Well my dad is originally from here and he got offered a job that paid better, so he thought why not? I don't mind the move though, I mean of course I miss my friends back in Bama but you gotta do what you gotta do."
"Oh, that's cool. Where does he work now? And did you have a lot of friends?"
"He works for Mr. North, the really rich cattle owner that owns like half the land in this town. He's apparently an old family friend, so he pays my dad well. And I guess I had a lot, I think more of them were more like friendly acquaintances though, but then I had three really close friends. We still talk on the phone every so often."
"Oh, my dad works for him too. I wonder if they've run into each other yet and have had no idea that their daughters are friends", I say with a laugh.
Isabel giggles, "They probably have."
"Ya. Well that sucks that you had to leave your friends behind."
"Ya, but I have you now, so its all good", she says with a big smile. I smile back. It's so nice to finally have a friend again; a friend I can be myself around and have a really good time with. Although, it sucks she had to move here all the way from Alabama and leave behind friends, I'm really glad she did move. I know that might sound selfish, but oh well. Just then I remembered the cookies.
"Oh! I got us some cookie dough to make cookies. Do you wanna go make them now?"
Isabel rubs her chin and acts as if she's in deep thought. "Hmmm... I don't know. Now or later?" She sits there for a minute and puts her hands out like she is actually weighing her options. I can't help but laugh at how ridiculous she looks. Finally, she days, "That is a complete no brainer question. Is it even possible to turn down cookies? Of course I want them now!"
Laughing I say, "Well then come on weirdo, to the kitchen! The cookie dough awaits us!" She laughs as we both hop off the bed and head to the kitchen.
