Chapter 1
I faintly hear the annoying ringing of my alarm going off in the back of my mind. The ringing is slowly getting louder and I can feel myself emerging from the blissful drug known as sleep. Groggily, I hit the snooze button. Again. It's now 7:45 which leaves me with an hour to shower, get ready, eat, and force myself to drive to school.
Everybody says senior year is the best; it's the golden year of high school. Your greatest memories and decisions are made that change your life and determine your future, blah blah blah. For me, Trystan Collins, that is not the case. I hate senior year. It is the worst year of my high school experience at Riverside High. No memories have been made what so ever. Unless I want to remember walking down the hall like the invisible woman in the Fantastic Four movies. Gosh, I love those movies; Chris Evans is one fine specimen. As great as those movies are though, I don't want to remember being a loner during my senior year. It's not exactly something you would proudly share with your children someday.
My alarm goes off once more, startling me from my thoughts. I realize I need to get moving if I want to be on time, so I slide out from under my soft, navy blue sheets and head for my bathroom to take a shower.

Within 40 minutes, I'm in my black Chevy Silverado backing out of my driveway and headed to school. It's a short 15 minute drive that ended too soon; before I know it I'm parked and walking towards my normal spot these days: the side wall of the gym. It's a nice, quiet spot that not many people pass unless the basketball team has morning practice; which is Monday's, Wednesday's, and Friday's. Then they exit the gym and pass by, not that it matters though. I'm not noticed anyway, nor is my existence even acknowledged.
Believe it or not, I actually used to be the most popular girl at Riverside; until the party. My best friend Kihanna and I practically ruled the school; however, she is no longer my friend and now rules alone. I slide down the wall and take out my economics homework I was too lazy to finish last night. Just as I start to get focused, the gym doors bang open and a mixture of laughter and loud voices forcefully wafts out into the once quiet and calm morning air. The basketball team had practice this morning and the players stream out in groups with their hair still damp from their after-practice showers.
I try to focus harder when I hear an extremely obnoxious, loud voice coming my way. Luke is walking out of the gym with Erik and a couple others I don't recognize. He's telling some story about how he almost caught his sisters cat on fire. What an idiot. How stupid do you have to be to catch a cat on fire? How do you even do that?
Erik and the others pretend to pay attention and seem completely uninterested in every word that's flowing out of Luke's mouth; sadly, he doesn't notice and continues with his story. Erik is looking stunning as always in his fitted, camouflage underarmor t-shirt that caresses his muscles and dark wash, bootcut Levi's that hug his butt quite nicely if I do say so myself. He's also got on his signature mossy oak hat with the little gold fish hook on the brim. The leaves on his shirt bring out his piercing green eyes. They go well with his chocolate brown, longish hair. He usually grows it out just above his eyebrows before he gets it cut.
He laughs at something one of the other players says and flashes his perfect smile. The boy is down home country from his mossy oak hat to his worn out Ariat work boots. He must've noticed me staring because he looks down at me and he does something no one has done since the party. He smiles at me.
It was quick though and I'm honestly not even sure if I actually saw it. Did I? Did Erik Carson just smile at me? I think he did, oh my gosh. I check behind me just to make sure. Yup, there's still a wall there; he had to've been looking at me.
I don't understand why he would though, no one has looked at or spoken to me since the party. My insides have turned to butterflies just from that one smile; it's so perfect and makes me melt. If I could turn into a liquid, I'd be a puddle of sweet tea.
I get lost in my thoughts, completely forgetting about my economics homework, until the bell rings bringing me back to reality and my unfinished homework. I sigh, pack up quickly and head to my first period.
