It's been five days since Luke's Halloween party.
In those five days, Erik has been by my side nonstop to make sure I'm okay. And I am. Okay, that is. I've actually never been happier. I have a best friend, a boyfriend, and freedom.
It feels so nice to not have Kihanna breathing down my neck with her lies.
People at school have even started talking to me again, save for Kihanna and her group. I'm just glad that I'm not avoided like the plague anymore.
Basically, these past five days have been really nice and today is no exception. Today is Isabel's birthday and the day that I present her with Garth Brooks tickets. Since I'm just an awesome best friend, I've also planned a surprise party at my house.
Isabel thinks it's just cake with my parents. Little does she know it's actually a party with her parents, my parents, Bryan, and Erik. There will be cake, ice cream, and most importantly: presents.
I get a text from Erik ten minutes before lunch. Stealthily, I unlock my phone to view the message.
Erik: do you want me to grab the cake?
Me: yeah, I'll keep Is busy.
I have a cookie cake in a cooler my truck that reads in big bold letters: HAPPY BIRTHDAY ISABEL! YOU'RE ONE IN A MINION!
It's decorated with the little minions from Despicable Me because she loves that movie and I thought it'd be funny. The minions are wearing coconut bras and grass skirts while hula dancing.
Oh, he needs to grab the gift bag too. I quickly send him a text reminding him to do so. We all pitched in and got her a group gift (my idea) for her to open now at school. It's a Garth Brooks tank top that reads: Blame it all on my roots. I have one that goes with it saying: I showed up in boots. My plan is for us to wear them to the concert together.
The bell rings, dismissing the class, and I get up and sprint out of the classroom. I have to hurry up and meet Isabel so that I can distract her. When I'm almost there, I'm yanked back by my backpack.
"What the h-", I start to say but stop myself when I see that it's Bryan.
"Go help Erik set up, I'll distract her," he winks before striding up to Isabel pulling her to the side and pushing her against the wall.
Before I see anything I can't un-see, I turn on my heel and head to where Erik is setting everything up. Since we usually eat on the ground, we moved to a bench in front of the gym so that the cake wouldn't be on the ground. We dont want any ants joining the party. Walking up I see that Erik is already there getting the cake ready.
He looks up as I get closer and smiles, "Hey beautiful." When I reach him he pulls me in for a quick kiss.
"I thought you were gonna distract Is," he asks, puzzled.
"I thought so too," I say with a shrug, "but Bryan told me he'd handle it."
"Oh ok, well do you have the plates?"
I pull them out of my book bag and hand them over along with the plastic forks and knife. It's not long before Isabel and Bryan are walking over to us hand in hand. For a moment, Isabel looks confused, but then her eyes land on the cake and a huge smile appears. She drops Bryans hand and barrels towards me, I barely have time to brace myself before I'm engulfed in a monstrous hug.
"Ohmygoshthankyousomuch!", she says all in one breath.
"You're welcome," I say with a laugh.
She pulls back and goes to examine the cake.
