"Jeremy I don't think you should go in there." Mrs. Lean warned.

"I have to know if Daphne is okay!" I protested.

I stood outside Daphne's hospital room trying to get in after I heard about the accident she got in.

"I know you're best friends and all but you will only be hurt if you go in." Mrs. Lean insisted.

"How bad is it?!" I demanded.

"It's not that bad, but there are some things wrong."

"I have to see her!"

I went around Mrs. Lean and opened the door to her room.

"No! Jeremy!" Mrs. Lean shouted.

I opened the door to reveal Daphne with bandages wrapped around her head with a few blonde strands over it. She wore the hospital gown with her white sheets pulled up high and her hands on her lap; there were tubed in her arm connected to machines. Daphne was sitting up straight and looked at me.

"Daphne! You're okay!" I exclaimed.

I hurried over to her bedside and pulled her into a hug.

"I'm fine. Sorry for worrying you." Daphne apologized.

I released her and held her by the shoulders at arm's length. I stared at her with a huge grin.

"Um... Who are you?" Daphne asked.

My smile crashed and I stared at her with wide eyes.

"Are you mad at me or something, because this isn't funny Daphne." I gripped her shoulders tighter.

"Your hurting me." Daphne pointed out.

"How could you forget about me Daphne? I'm your best friend! Tell me you're joking!" I yelled.

"You're scaring me." Daphne whimpered.

"Jeremy let her go." Mrs. Lean ordered.

She put a hand on my shoulder and pulled me back.

"No!" I flailed around. "Daphne has to know who I am!"

A doctor and nurse came in to help restrain me.

"Sir, your frightening the patient." The Nurse motioned.

I stopped and looked at Daphne who was shaking in fear. I bowed my head letting my dark brown hair cover my eyes.

"I'm sorry Daphne. I'll leave now."

I was guided out of the room by Mrs. Lean and the door was shut behind us. I slid down against the door and sat.

"What's wrong with Daphne?" I whispered.

"She has amnesia."

"How did it happen?"

"She heard something she shouldn't have."

I look up at Mrs. Lean.

"What was it?"

She stayed silent. I got up on my feet and glared at her.

"What did you do?" I growled.

I grab her by the collar and pulled her down to my level.

"What did you say?!" I demanded.

There were a few stares towards us now.

"She overhead us say she was adopted." Mrs. Lean admitted.

I let go of her collar and walked away.

"Jeremy! Jeremy!" Mrs. Lean yelled.

I walked out of the hospital that day but I always come for as long as I can to talk with Daphne. Mrs. Lean gave Daphne her diary so that helps. She still can't remember much though.

"Hey Daphne," I started. "Do you know how to do math?"

"Yeah. Just don't remember anything about myself."

I nodded and we sat in comfortable silence. Suddenly I remembered something during my visits. When ever my session is over Mrs. Lean comes afterwards and Daphne looks really sad when ever she sees her.

"Why do you always look sad when you look at Mrs. Le-- I mean your mom?"

"I do? I don't know why."

My thoughts drifted to the conversation I had with Mrs. Lean about her condition.

"She has amnesia."

"How did it happen?"

"She heard something she shouldn't have."

"She overhead us say she was adopted."

I looked at Daphne who had a distant look on her face. Her eyes looked sad despite her appearance. I pull her into a hug.

"Jeremy?!" She exclaimed.

"I know you're afraid of being alone, but I will never leave you. That doesn't change even if you are adopted."

I pull back and look at Daphne's face; tears were streaming her face.

"Why are you crying?! Did I say something I shouldn't have?" I panicked.

"No." Daphne wiped the tears off her face. "I feel like I'm very happy to hear those words."

Daphne gives me a bright smile.

"I promise you Daphne. I will help you get your memories back."

"Thanks Jeremy."

I promise you Daphne. I will get your memories back no matter what.
